$10,000 for 50 people for EVERYTHING?

Well around $10,000 anyway. We have always been indecisive about doing our wedding where we live (in Southern California) or having it in Hawaii where we have been to many times on each island. My favorite is the Big Island and his is Maui, but we will have it on any island depending on the cost. We know Oahu would generally be the cheapest, but we haven't found what we are looking for. So far the best package I found is at Royal Kona Resort for $10,000. I actually LOVE this hotel and stayed there last year. We LOVE tikis, retro Hawaii, and kitch, lots of kitch! Anyway that package includes:
-5 nights in a ocean front honeymoon suite with breakfast each day
-Officiant
-Wedding consultant
-Seating for 50 people
-Orchid petal path
-Nosegay bridal bouquet
- 2 leis
- One hour musician for ceremony
- 2 hours photography
- Reception dinner buffet for 50
- 2 hour cocktail service
- Signature cocktail
- 12 bottles of champagne for toasting
- 3 tier cake with floral topper
- Chair covers (HATE chair covers, but I will see if I could come up with $ for an alternative)
- 3 hours of dj service

The only thing I don't really like about the package is that it only includes 2 hours of a photographer when ideally we would want 3 or maybe even 4 which I guess we could buy the extra hours. They also seem to nickel and dime you on the prints unless they do include a CD where we could print the ones we want on our own.

My question to you is are there any other hotels, restaurants, ANYTHING in Hawaii (any island) where we can have both a ceremony and wedding either on the beach or right next to the beach with both taking place outside or on a patio that is our price range (give or take)? I have looked at so many websites online, and most of the links are to hotels or ordained ministers that will marry you in Hawaii.

Our Musts:
- ceremony and reception on the beach or beach front
- buffet dinner
- either all inclusive or where many things can be planned at the venue
- can fit 50 people
- some room to dance (don't exactly need a dance for as most of the people going aren't dancers, but would like to have a few basic dances there for people to dance to)

Great to Have, but not a Musts
- lack of privacy
- island location
- if a package, we are okay with alloting 2 alcohol drinks per guests using tickets if  we have to pay per drink
- retro feel
- lots of tikis and bamboo

Sorry for the long post, but any ideas of places we should check out?

I'm not sure about the retro feel, but we're doing the Outrigger Reef Waikiki.  They have packages for ceremony and reception for $3000 - $6000, plus food, and there is a buffet.  It overlooks Waikiki beach.  Don't know if it will work for you, but it's another option

My FI and I are doing a retro tiki weddding, too. We are getting married at Mama's Fish House.  We are only having half the amount of ppl you are having, but are still spending close to that amount.  However, that includes, our wedding, all wedding activities, our 3 weeks of stay in Hawaii, island hopping flights, flights to and from the island, our welcome bags, photographer, gifts for bridal team and family and our AHR. So you could do the wedding for less.

Wow, KimmyKupCakes who have you talked to at Mammas? I may be interested. We were thinking Gannons on the south side but for 20 guests, planner, wedding, dinner, photo, ipod dock, cake and lighting we were at 5k and that doesn't include any of our stay or extras. Our budget is 15k but we have to buy 8 rt tickets from seattle and they will run us 400 each if I get them on sale.

Hey Kimmy, I was just reading your wedding bio and saw a picture of you and your FI at Forbidden Island Tiki Lounge in Alameda and thought it was hilarious because I live like 3 blocks from there! If you're ever back in the bay you should check out smuggler's cove http://www.yelp.com/biz/smugglers-cove-san-francisco

Anyway, very cute bio, you two look perfect for each other :)

Hi, Meagan. Thanks.  We will be back there this September to do our Engagement photos.  We plan on going to Smuggler's Cove, Forbidden Island, the Tonga Room, Hula's, Trad'r Sam's and Trader Vic's.  We are actually even doing some of our engagement photos at Forbidden Island and at Trader Vic's.

Jke- Will look into that. Thanks

Kimmy- I have been to Mama’s before and love it. I actually contacted them about doing a ceremony and wedding, but they said they couldn’t do more than 20 on the patio. I got inspired awhile back to do the tiki and laua inspired theme because we love tropical places especially Hawaii, drinks with umbrellas, Jimmy Buffet, and being on vacation! I saw a couple’s tiki wedding blog and it looked so cool and like something that we would want to have.

Does it have to be at a hotel? I am renting a vacation home that backs out onto the ocean and we will be having our ceremony and reception there as well. I am cutting some of my costs by buying all our alcohol at Costco, but having professional caterers and an event stylist. Another thing you may want to consider to bring your costs down is having a close friend or family member with the Universal Life church online (total cost is $50) and they can marry you! Our friend will be marrying us :)

Thanks for the idea Brazen. I would be into renting a vacation home if I wasn't going to do a destination wedding since I would have to plan from a distance with all different vendors (I guess I could have a wedding planner, but ideally for such a small informal wedding I don't think it is needed for what we want). I don't mind budgeting for convenience if it means a place that is more inclusive.
