Vent: NWR

So - in my apartment complex - we share a washer/dryer with 8 other apartments. Not too bad. I usually do our laundry Monday/Tuesday to avoid the busy times - but I decided to throw a load in today.

I put it in the washer at 6:10. Someone was using the dryer. They must have dried their stuff for two hours (which is fine - these dryers suck) - but I went back at 8:00 and the dryer was finished but the person's laundry was still in there. I've gone back every fifteen minutes..and they still have not gotten their laundry out. It's now 8:50..and I can't dry my stuff...

Laundry has to be done by 11:00 per apartment rules - and I need to dry mine 1.5 hours.

I just can't believe how rude people are. Her laundry has been done for almost an hour - and it's still just sitting in there. I time mine to the exact minute.

uggh..I'm so irritated. :p

  • I feel your pain. We also have communal washers and dryers and it is SO annoying. People are extremely inconsiderate. I told FI we need our own washer and dryer in our next apartment, but I think it will be easier said than done.

  • I feel your pain.  That is one of the main reasons we are looking to buy a house.  Thankfully we only have 4 apartments that share 1 set but still it seems to always be full of other peoples' stuff.

  • yikes...makes me glad we have our own washer and dryer.  I remember when I lived in a sorority house, though...that would drive me crazy.  I used to always take people's laundry out and throw it on top of the dryer if they didn't take it out in a reasonable amount of time.

  • When I use to live at my 1st apartment we shared 6 or 7 washing machines and 6 or 7 dryers with approx. 40 apartments in the wholes building so I definitely feel your pain.
What I used to do when I was in your situation is take ALL their clothes and throw it on top of the dryer.  I don't know if the same rules applies for you but we weren't supposed to leave the machines unattended if we were using them (not like anyone actually stuck around to wait for them) but I also made sure I was there about 5 mins. before they were done.  So if those people got angry.. well tough..

  • Same as Ally, in our dorms whoever didn't take their stuff out in time had their clothes put elsewhere. It wasn't a big deal though, as long you set their things somewhere else neatly. Next time you should do the same. If there's a basket somewhere or a clean flat area, put their clothes there and move on lol!

  • We live in a house, but our washer is broken so we've been having to go to a laundromat.

  • Sorry to hear that!  We had the same problem in our apartment complex.  Now we are renting a single family house and we have our own washer and dryer.  It has been life changing!

When that used to happen to me, I would get a clothes drying rack and set it up in the bathtub for my clothes to dry overnight.  Plus, weather is getting better and we had a little deck so it saved me some money.
  • sounds like college or a sorority house to me!! I haven't had to deal with this since my sorority days :)

definitely just take their stuff out. not a big deal at all. people have to do this to get their stuff done. my old roommate and I used to do this to each other's laundry all the time just so we could get laundry done when we needed to.

-_- That's what I did. I ended up taking the laundry out of the washer - and drying it in the bath-tub over night..and whatever didn't dry - went into the dryer this morning to finish up.

We finally gave up at 9:30pm...and we left her a note asking her to be more considerate of other people who may want to do laundry.

    People! Psht! Rudeness..:p
