September 2012 Weddings

Meeting schedule??

Happy Saturday, ladies! I'm feeling a little overwhelmed and I know you all have excellent advice so...

I'm planning a wedding from out of state, and will be in town twice before September (I'm sure I'll be in a few days before the wedding)- early May and Mid July (for my shower).

I need to do the following things:
-Hair/make up trial
-Meet officiant (we've booked him, need to plan the ceremony)
-Meet photographer (booked, parents met her)
-Meet with DJ? (booked. Do you think it is necessary to meet with him, or do you think communicating via phone/filling out song choices is adequate)

For sure we're meeting with the venue in July to go over menu selections/finalizing linens and all that stuff

Anything I might be forgetting? Florist and baker are set already

So my question is, when do you think would be a good time to do what? I also have a wedding planner (who I'm going to ask this as well). Thanks!!

Re: Meeting schedule??

  • I am planning a DW so I TOTALLY know the feeling!

Here are the things that have helped me
    - If you feel comfortable with the DJ you have, then email/phone communication will let you plan everything without having to get together (I've never met mine, but he came highly recommended by the coordinator at my resort and he's been great via email)
    - Most of the stuff with your Officiant can be done via email/phone. They are going to want a quick meeting likely to meet the couple, but if you've already sorted everything out that meeting can go from a drawn out planning of everything to a quick meeting.

Some things you're going to work out closer to the wedding, but things that won't change are good now! I would meet the photog on your first visit, because with the exception of little time changes, your booking them is booking them, its not something that requires a lot of last min negotiating.

Do hair/makeup on your first visit. Its harder for us to find vendors for stuff like that and book a second one if you find the first one is a disappointment.

If the officiant is ok with waiting, I would meet with them on the second trip so you can discuss the final details and have almost everything else sorted out. Mine threw questions at me that I was baffled on when I last talked with him because its too far out to actually know yet lol
  • Thanks, I appreciate it! I can't imagine how difficult a DW wedding is... seems like you have it handled ;)
