Maine

Honeymoon suggestions?

FI and I live in Florida but are getting married in his hometown of Boston. We may not be able to afford taking a honeymoon right away. I want to at least try to go somewhere quiet for 3 days after the wedding to relax and unwind. Can anyone recommend a place in Maine, close to water, romantic, not too expensive, in or near a nice town where we can take nice walks, go out to dinner, etc. Thanks!

    The Samoset resort, rockland

Kennebunkport is a fab little beach town and is not as 'tacky' as Old Orchard Beach and not as expensive as Camden.

Bar Harbor is always wonderful but is down east (im not sure how far you would want to travel, it could be a long drive whereas southern maine is about an hour from Boston

Im pretty sure we will be spending a week at a cabin on Range Pond in Poland

There's always Portland too!  It doesn't have the beaches but lots of water front, great shops, lots of great romantic resturants, then you can go out sailing or on one of casco bay lines cruises (sunset would be pretty).. you could also go to an island for a day and rent bikes or walk.. and there are beaches out there..  You could even look into renting a house on one of the islands off Casco Bay and stay there.  The backside of Peaks Island has the prettiest sunsets! And Cock-eyed Gull out there is fabulous!  You can rent bikes out there, it's only like 3.5 miles around so definitely walkable.. and only a 15 minute ferry ride from Portland! There's also a lot of history in Portland if you are into that (Victorian Mansion) and Museums. Good luck!

The Samoset Resort is fantastic and right on the ocean. You are within minutes of restaurants, shops, ferries to the islands, windjammers, museums, art galleries, etc.  A friend of mine got a room there at a fraction of the price on Priceline.  If you're familiar with it you might want to check it out.  Good luck!
