Texas honeymoon

I need a cheap budget friendly honeymoon in Texas. We are getting married in August 2013. I live in San Antonio but don't travel a lot so any ideas are  helpful.

Re: Texas honeymoon

You could find a B&B in the hill country and do a wine tasting, visit a cave, go to a lake, go antiqueing/ window shopping, etc. It all depends on where you end up.

If you like the beach Corpus/ Padre is nice (also close to you). Just lazy on the beach, visit the Lexington and aquarium. Over 10 years ago I remember visiting a little museum that had replicas of Christopher Columbus' ships. I like Galveston but that is a much farther drive for you. It is the same thing but you could also go into Houston and do anything the city has to offer along with the beach.

  • A girl on our local boards went to Fredericksburg and stayed in a B&B.
Tara Wineries in East Texas is also beautiful!

Here's a link with some ideas:

I agree with all the previous suggestions.  Also, Galveston, Port Aransas and New Braunfels.  I know it's not Texas but my husband and I were contemplating a cheap vacation and considered Hot Springs.

  • I'd also suggest Hill Country, but maybe that's too close for you? I never made when I lived in Houston, but I heard great things and I'm upset we couldn't make it work.

What about camping somewhere (if you're a camper...).  I know Big Bend is supposed to be amazing, but I guess summer in Texas will be killer if you're outside in a tent.

Again, it may be a little close for you, but one of my favorite weekend trips was to Austin.  We stayed at a nice-ish hotel, went out to eat, walked around the parks/lake, watched the bats on Congress Avenue, went to a craft fair, did a little shopping, and so on.  The only thing I would have changed was staying at a more independent, kitschy hotel closer to town.  We were a little further out and probably would have paid the same price if we were downtown.
