I was just wondering who all should get a boutennier or corsage. and do people still wear corsages? I was pondering just giving a single stem of my wedding flowers to the important ladies instead. Thoughts?
Single stem means they have to hold it. Will your granma find that cumbersome if she is carrying a clutch purse too? Will you like the way that looks in pictures? Have you considered a wrist corsage?
Who gets bouquets: Bride BMs
Who gets corsages: Moms Grandmas Female Readers, singers, ushers, etc
Who gets bouts: Dads Grandpas Groom GM Male Readers, singers, ushers, etc
I asked some of the ladies what they would prefer, and they chose wrist corsages. We're giving them to the mothers, grandmothers, and aunts. My coordinator and the one female musician are getting pin-on ones.
Older women generally prefer the pin on corsage, like the grandmothers. I would just ask the mothers what they prefer. My florist recommended wrist for the mothers since they will be doing a lot of hugging and the pin on corsages get crushed easily.
As for who to give them too, I agree with Wisc' recs.
I think the single stem flower is a nice option for BMs, but I wouldn't do that for the other women you're honoring.
At my first wedding, both mothers opted to carry bouquets -- my preference too -- rather than corsages since they both thought corsages were "old-fashioned." FWIW, they were both in their 60s at the time so I'm not sure how much I'd generalize about "older women." We had a wrist corsage for the ex's grandmother who was about 90 at the time. Bouts for both fathers. No other living grandparents.
Our florist recommended small bouquets for the moms, which they both wanted over a corsage, and my grandmothers are deciding between a wrist or pin corsage depending on what they end up wearing (pin corsages aren't great for all fabrics).
We're giving bouts to the fathers, grandfathers, and our chuppah carriers (our brothers).
My Mom didn't want a corsage, she finds it to be old fashioned. My florist recommended a small clutch bouquet for her (and the MOG.) We're still doing corsages for the grandmothers...my florist described them as a "badge" and it so is!
