Venue Suggestions!

Hi, Philly girls! I am looking for some venue advice.

I am look for a venue (preferably in Philadelphia, though I would consider suburbs if I have to) that holds 175. I would prefer to stay under $200/person inclusive of tax/gratuity/rental fee.

I prefer more traditional (as opposed to modern, contemporary) venues, especially ones with some sort of outdoor space. I also like museums and places with historical significance.

I have so far looked at Rittenhouse Hotel, Hyatt at the Bellevue, Cescaphe Ballroom, and Curtis Center. I will be visiting with Please Touch and Arts Ballroom. I LOVE the Please Touch museum, but my concern there is the catering. The basic package is about 155  and doesn't include any cocktail hour stations, dessert besides cake, or beef entree selections. That seems overpriced.

I would love your advice on additional venues.

Thanks!

Re: Venue Suggestions!

  • I was going to suggest Cescaphe. Also, I visited Please Touch, but decided against it for the same reason... you don't get very much for the money. It's a shame, because the space is amazing and unique. Have you looked into the Franklin Institute at all? I've heard really good things about their catering. I would also suggest Ballroom at the Ben, Crystal Tea Room and the Down Town Club. I looked into all of those places and I ruled the last three out because they were too tradtional for my liking, but since you are going for that, you might really like them. I think all of the places I suggested are in your price range. Good luck!

  • I am getting married at the Morris Arboretum in Chestnut Hill. It is beautiful. They have 5 different caterers you can choose from to work with your budget. They have a tent to accomodate 175 people for a sit down dinner I think. You can check them out at morrisarboretum.com. LOL i feel like a commercial.

<div>Franklin Institute is definitely something to add to my list. Thanks!</div><div>
</div><div>Traditional isn't the right word because I eliminated the last three you suggested because I found them too traditional-looking lol! I guess I mean I don't want a super modern-looking venue. </div>

</div><div>Yes they have indoor facilities as well. Not as large as the outdoors of course. The tent has sides that can be let down in case it rains also. Check it out. You can also use the Arboretum for all your wedding pics including your e-pics which is great.</div>

  • Check out The Down Town Club. No outdoors but all of your other wants. I was very happy with them!

  • Thanks pearl! I will check them out. What caterer did you decide on?

Thank you all for suggestions so far. Keep them coming, please!
  • Also check out the Loews and the Ritz.  The Loews has two ballrooms - one is more traditional and the other is a bit more modern with tons of windows.  And cocktail hour can be held on the 33rd floor, with panoramic views of the city.  So while you're not outside, you still get that visual.  I'm getting married there on Saturday - so hopefully you can check out my pics of the space soon thereafter!

The Ritz also has a lovely ballroom and several cool spaces for cocktail hour.  Oh, and if you want outdoors, check out Kimmel Center --- they're re-doing their event space (should be almost done, I think), and it should be really cool.  And I think Jose Garces recently became their exclusive caterer (was Wolfgang Puck before, so can't go wrong either way there!)

  • We are getting married at the Penn Museum.  Lots of spaces to choose from (indoor and outdoor) and access to most of the museum for guests during reception.  The caterer is Wolfgang Puck Catering.  We have our tasting scheduled for June so I can't tell you whether it lives up to the name's reputation, but I think they should be within your budget.  Check out the rentals section of their website.  Good luck!
