Eco-Friendly Weddings

Eco venue on east coast

My hubby to be and I have been looking for a eco-friendly venue for our wedding on the east coast (mainly Northeast).  We hope to have no more than 70 people. I found some interesting places but the hubby to be is not crazy about any of them or they have a 100 people minimum.  It has not been easy to search online for any "green" venues.  Anybody have any deas for eco venues?

  • Herrington on the Bay in Rose Haven, MD. PROS: landscaped nicely, inn and guest houses for use, food is sustainable, site is environmentally friendly (in fact, the nation's most eco-sensitive marina), very accomodating and friendly, dedicated staff CONS: if you don't want a beach style reception it's hard to figure our decor... but we will!!! it was a win/win. http://www.herringtononthebay.com/ (this is where we're getting married!)

Irvine Nature Center in Owings Mills, MD. http://www.explorenature.org/
  • If you're not opposed to traveling from Jersey to MD, there's also a great place called Thorpewood in Thurmont, MD.  They are very earth-friendly - down to the point of not even having AC in their facility.  It is absolutely beautiful inside and out, and you get far more out of their wedding packages than you do out of other places in the area.  We would have booked here if not for them being booked already.

  • oh yeah i forgot all about thorpewood. that place is great too!!!
  • A friend of mine is having an eco-friendly wedding at Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge, Mass (http://www.oldsturbridgevillage.com/). It's a Quaker village so it's pretty eco-friendly. A little different, but maybe something to check out!

I just found a place in Philadelphia called Front & Palmer (the caterer that runs the location is called Feast Your Eyes).  The floors are made of reclaimed wood, they have solar panels, and the chandeliers are made of old bedsprings (beautiful).  It is a large loft feeling, cool vibe.  But its in a very industrial neighborhood.
