Surprise first dance?

Is anybody else out there doing a surprise first dance? If so, what are you doing and with what song?

My FI and I are going to start out with a traditional slow dance song and then after a few measures bust out a fast latin dance. We can't wait!

If you want to do this, great. However, given that so many do it now (thinks to youtube) I don't think you can really call it a surprise anymore. Everyone knows what's coming as soon as the music scratches.

I say if you're going to do a surprise, take dance lessons and foxtrot or waltz your way through it. No one will be expecting that.

I really really really want to do this. Now to convince FI to take dance lessons....hmmmm......

Lame. Perhaps cute the first time. Now that there are a gazillion of them on youtube it's no longer cute or original.

My SIL and her H took lessons and did a swing dance for their first dance when they got married ten-plus years ago and the DJ ended up playing swing music like every third song.

Yeah, not so original anymore. My BP is all entering to a choreographed number that goes with this silly 1950s song that was in the show my FI and I met doing. I just hope I can get everyone on board!

Yeah, that's not so original anymore either. I hope you chose your WP for their dance skills and inante extroversion, or they may resent you later for making them look like fools.

I'm not a fan of the choreographed dances. I don't think I could do that to my WP.

If you still want to do this, you should watch a few episodes of TLC's Rock the Reception. Almost all of these surprise dances look like a bunch a grownups putting on a high school talent show.

My WP and us are all Theatre folks so we will all love this. Also I HATE when the DJ announces the BP and everyone, i think it's so cheesy. It's a wedding not Vegas. This is our way of everyone having their entrance and it will be fun and memorable.

Calm down stage manager...i'm an AEA Stage manager myself. My WP Loves the idea. Some people are just acking for some snark...go to SB's if you want to be a bridezilla.

Also, i'm not planning this to be original, it's something my FI and I are excited about. I could give a crap if it's been done b4. It's going to be a blast!
