Dessert Reception Caterer in Philadelphia area

Hello all!!  I am new to this site.  Doing some pre-planning.  Has anyone had a dessert reception?  If so, did it turn out nice?  Can anyone suggest a caterer who can make the spread look beautiful?  I am have a evening ceremony (7pm) and dessert reception in the same place.  Second marraige for both of us and wanted to keep it simple but not cheesy.  Any suggestions on dessert reception caterers in the Philadelphia area would be great!!!

I had considered doing this as well... however, we were looking at starting MUCH later (like 9pm start) - at 7pm, we felt that guests would still expect a meal...

I agree with Kris. We don't normally eat dinner until 8ish - so I would assume that dinner would be served at a 7pm reception. If you're doing a dessert reception at 7pm, you need to make it VERY, VERY clear that there is no meal.

A dessert reception will be clearly stated on the invitations.  All who do not wish to come, are clearly not genuinely my friends.  I only have the venue until 12 midnight and we are having dancing (DJ) afterwards.  The latest I would push it back is to 7:30 or 8:00.  But I will probably keep it at 7p.

Any good caterers in the area who can do the entire spread?

Someone had one last year, her name was Liz and she used to post here.

That did a little article on her wedding... I saw the pictures on FB when we were FB friends and it all looked really REALLY cute.

Her wedding pictures were blogged here:

She got crap for it from some of the girls on the board, but I honestly think it's a really cute idea, esp. if it's late at night and clearly stated on the invite. It all seemed to come together really nicely.

That's her blog now, but if you go back far enough, there is a lot about her wedding in the blog. HTH.

thanks for the heads up (and kind words!!), BP.

we did a dessert reception, but we did it (quasi)DIY- made and ordered a bunch of desserts ourselves and then set it all up. i get into a lot of the specifics here: http://happysighs.blogspot.com/2010/02/lazy-or-food-part-1.html and also wrote an article about it for apracticalwedding.com. and yeah, like BP said- we got lots of trash talk from the knot, but really that's about it. everyone else was on board.

when we spoke to caterers, every typical caterer was willing to do the desserts-only reception. the reason we ended up doing it ourselves is that usually the catering prices were pretty much equivalent to having a full dinner, and we didn't think it was worth it.

re: timing, i'm usually a late eater, too (8pm is pretty standard in our house), but i think if you have the dessert reception at 7pm, people will have time to grab a bite beforehand (depending on the timing of the ceremony). you said the invitation will be specific about it being only dessert, so you're set. i wouldn't be miffed or expecting dinner if you made it clear that it wouldn't be there.

and just a thought- you may not NEED the venue from 7-12. that's a long time for just cupcakes and some dancing. usually these kinds of weddings are shorter- you may want to talk to your venue about a discounted price and chop the time down a bit. just a suggestion!

Thanks so much everyone...especially cheezit217.  I am still up in the air..I can have a full buffet dinner for 80 at a restaurant for $7,000 or a dessert reception at for 100 for $3,000-$3,500.  SInce this is a second marraige for both of us I/We didnt want to make a big deal about the ceremony and really concentrate on the honeymoon.  I also havent figured out if I do do the dessert reception...when would WE eat??!!  As we would problably not have the option or the time to have dinner right before coming....

ugh, i'm gonna be THAT girl who admits she didn't eat the entire day of her wedding. everyone told me it would happen. and it happened.

i put out strawberries and prosecco while i got ready with my sister and bridesmaids, and i nibbled. i had maybe a piece of cheese at the reception. in the whirl of everything, i wasn't even hungry. and EVERYONE told me it would be that way, and I didn't believe them. we didn't really eat until after everything.

try this blog, they have lots of good ideas for desserts/cupcakes etc.  http://letthemeatcakeatyourwedding.blogspot.com/

The one suggestion I have is if you are considering having cakepops, be sure u try them out way in advance, some of the recipes are tricky!  I know I saw some pie pops (might have been on the site above).  I know the site had a cupcake fondue that looked like fun.  Anyway enjoy reading! a eating vicariously!
