September 2012 Weddings

Florist :(

We got engaged last February and pretty much booked all of the vendors right away. I was planning on DIY'ing the floral and then found a somewhat inexpensive florist whose work I loved! When I called about my date, she already has THIRTY weddings booked for that weekend! It's not like we are in a busy metropolis. Our population is only like 100k. lol  That is crazy to me! Has anyone else experienced this?

She mentioned for our area, that August and September are the most popular months. I work with two different people getting married on the same day as me too. lol

[QUOTE]That seems like an excessive amount, even if she was willing to take it on I'm not sure I'd want to work with a florist with that much on the go!

Crazy, isn't it? Though, my venue was already booked with another wedding on our 1st choice of a date... 17 months in advance. We met with the photographer soon after and she was already fully booked in all of June/July (eta: 15 months out). My area must be crazy for weddings.
  • Yikes, 30 weddings in a weekend, thats one super busy florist! I definately think September is a pretty popular month for weddings and depending where you live vendors definately book quickly. When I booked our venue in June, I thought I was way on top of it until the coordinator told me there was only a few dates left in that month. So after that I went crazy and booked all my vendors right in a row because I was so paranoid about the people I liked not being available.

  • Yikes, that's a lot of weddings in one day! I booked our venue almost exactly a year ago and they were almost all booked up for September already, as were a lot of the other venues I looked at. And I know at least 2 of the photographers I looked at, including the one I booked with, said that they had gotten other inquiries for my date. I have yet to book my florist and baker...maybe I should bump up my timeline for those.

  • I'm not surprised there are that many weddings booking, I am surprised the florist was willing to take on that many weddings... that would seriously concern me
  • If I were you, I'd probably still DIY the flowers like you'd originally planned, but now you can use that florists designs as direct inspiration! Pick your favorite designs and do your best to copy them! ;)

  • When I used to work for a florist, the most we would take in a weekend was 8.  Average was 5-6.  We had a staff of 5 or so, and worked on weddings all day tues-fri.  If we had a BIG wedding that weekend, it would likely be the only one, unless we had an inquiry for something small.  To do 30 she mush have a HUGE staff!  And a huge shop.  Crazy

Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.

</div><div>EXACTLY!! Sept/Oct are becoming uber popular for weddings and I know venues and a lot of vendor book 1-2 years in advance, so that's not surprising. We were just so lucky that everything we wanted was somehow only available on our date - it was fate lol</div><div>I wouldn't want to hire a florist who is that busy; how much time/effort can they really devote to your flowers?</div>

  • OMG. I would be afraid they would get things mixed up if I was one of those 30 weddings. I would hope they are super organized so that doesn't happen. I went to book our limo at a bridal expo last weekend. When i told the guy our date he said I was probably the 7th person he talked to with that date. He only had 1 limo left for that day so I scooped it up. As I was sitting there doing the paperwork, some other girl walked up and had the same date! I was so tempted to stand up and yell "IT'S MINE!" Hahaha. :p
  • I know my florist said she is already booked for the month of September but I booked her about a year and a half ago.  You would think the summer months would be more popular I am suprised September is.  How does one florist book 30 weddings in one day, are you sure she didn't mean for the entire month of September?
  • If I were you I would find another florist.  Most of the ones in my area book over a year out and only do 4-6 a weekend.

We booked most of our vendors 2 years out.  Our venue was just under 3 years out and we only had two dates in September, to choose from and one in May.

The only vendors not booked yet are hair, makeup and tuxes.
