WTF - over venue capacity

So I had family follow up with people who haven't RSVP'ed yet and a little back story, my mom invited 70 MORE people than our venue can hold.  We are maxed at 200 and she kept inviting people because she thought "oh everyone has to travel, they won't come so I'll invite them anyway to be nice"  (BTW, I kept telling her to stop!)  Well, surprise, surprise peole ARE coming and we are 10 over what our venue can hold.  I expressed my concern to her tonight and again she said, "well some people won't be able to make it so we'll be fine."  WHAT??!!!!  What if the DO come?  What if someone else decides to bring an uninvited guest???!!!!  UGH!  I don't know what to do... I can't UNinvite people!!!!!

So... have any of you heard of a % of people not attending who have RSVPed?

    Ah, how stressful! Yes, some people will likely pull out at the last minute. My sister has 7 RSVP yes who didn't come in the end (they told her before the day but after RSVPing yes originally) and her wedding was smaller (around 110 guests). Still, maybe it would be worth calling the venue and discussing the worst-case-scenario of them all turning up?

    I have heard that this happens, but to hope that 10 people just don't show up even though the RSVPed seems like a lot. I'm not going to lie. If even one person doesn't show that RSVPed, I will freak the F out. We're paying almost $120 a person, so that will not be okay in my book.

    My mom's friend had 7 no-shows for her daughter's wedding that had RSVPd yes!! I would send them a bill! (not really but it would be tempting)

    im having this exact same problem actually. i am about 20 people over our limit of 300. you kinda just have to hope for the best... ive been stressing about it like crazy and its not helping at all. i guess the best idea is to just cross that bridge when it arrives. when you really HAVE to have your set number in to your reception site. i wish you luck... i know how annoying this is..

    That's awful. :( So sorry for the stress. I agree that your mom put you in this mess, so she should try to get you out of it!!

    We are having the opposite problem.  We invited what we could afford - 110 and so far we only have 55 RSVP'd yes and 20 no.  We are supposed to have a minimum of 75 so we may end up paying for people who are not there.  I know it is tacky to have a B list, but I don't want to pay for people who are not there.
