Is my style too... scattered? (Long)

So here's the thing, I'm all over the place! I really wanted to do a 1940's themed wedding, and we are having it in a museum that was once a train terminal from 1937. I picked a chantilly lace gown, I have the birdcage veil a beautiful set of pearls, classic shoes, and I'm doing a natural make-up style. My mom is wearing a 1940's styled classic Hollywood black dress. But that is really it for the 1940's style I was aiming for.

The centerpiece is a shapely vase filled with lemons to reflect our black, lemon and ivory wedding colors.

I originally wanted the girls in Audrey Hepburn styled dresses, but they looked awful on. So they have knee length strapless black dresses with pockets. Not exactly 1940s! So we decided to make it a little more 50s and give them yellow crinoline under it.

I'm hand-making pinwheels for the centerpiece of the kids table, I'm dying babyfood jars yellow and filling them with lemon heads and candles to use as accents around the site...

I'd love to do yellow parasol shots outside too, since we are having a morning wedding and the outside of the facility is beautiful.

But outside of that I feel like I'm all over the place! Any suggestions? Or am I just being paranoid? I feel like I don't have a central theme like everyone else.

  • I don't have a centralized theme... I just chose what I liked, in the colors we chose and I think it will all work well together.  I think what you have going sounds very nice. Remember that you will be much more sensitive to your choices than your guests. I don't think anyone is going to look at the bridesmaids dresses and think "but those aren't 1940's!"

    Haha, I know they won't, or at least I hope not! I think I might just be overanalyzing again.

    <div>I agree. We don't have a theme. Or colors really... I'm just trying to keep it rustic and natural with a touch of vintage. Soe we're doing primarily neutral colors with a few pops of color here and there (bright green grass on tables, etc) I think as long as it all flows together nicely, then you'll be fine. Everything you've described sounds great! No one's going to be thinking "theme" or "colors" there anyways. =)</div>
  • I agree with PPs, I think it sounds like its all going to flow together nicely, and you're just overthinking it!
  • I definitely don't think that sounds all over the place, it sounds fine!

  • I think it sounds awesome! I am bad person to ask because a lot of the stuff you are doing is very similar to me! I am also doing lemons in my centerpieces and I am going to be wearing a yellow crinoline! I think everything you are doing sounds like it blends and flows very well and you do not have to worry about it

  • I actually think you have integrated your desired theme really well.  The truth is, we aren't actually in the 1940's and so while you want a vintage feel, you don't want people to feel like they are at a costume party, right?  So your dress will have vintage elements like lace and a beautiful veil, but it doesn't have to all be 100% authentic, ya know?  Thats why I really like what you are doing with the bridesmaid dresses - a really cute reference with shape and crinoline, but not too over the top.  It's going to be gorgeous.  You might look into ways to reference your theme in your invite graphics - that could be a really nice way to pull it all together!
  • I'm so glad I posted this on here! It really provided a lot of relief knowing that it's just me freaking myself out.

    I agree that if I were to go too far out with it, it will feel like a costume party.

    *Giant sigh of relief.* :) Thanks ladies!

    @Alyssa
    Is the picture in your avi what you are doing for your centerpiece? If so, we're twins! Haha. Except I'm planning to use white ribbon with black polka-dots.
