Just Engaged and Proposals

Question about a ring, looking for opinions, please!

First of all, let me say that FI has already proposed: he asked, I said yes, it just didn't involve a ring or anything like that.  He brought the subject up, asked about setting the date (June 2013), and so forth, so yes, we're engaged, I simply don't have a ring.  FI has told me that he has been looking for something specific, and tonight finally told me what he was looking for because he's gotten so frustrated that he can't even find picture examples to take to a jeweler.

He says several years ago he saw a set that consisted of the two people's names, and they were interlocked.  He remembers that there was a diamond as well, but not how it was put together.  Obviously, it had to have been a custom piece, but he was hoping to at least find some type of picture or way to better describe it to a jeweler.  I've been thinking about it for the last couple of hours since he went to sleep, and all I can think of is maybe it was a solitaire for the engagement ring, and a wrap with both names for the wedding band, and that maybe he just thought that the names somehow interlocked together.  As he described it, he thought that the woman's name was the e-ring, and the man's name the wedding band, and that somehow the names interlocked, and there was a diamond in there somewhere.  (Yes, this is how he described it to me.)  The man's wedding band either has both names, or just the last name, he couldn't remember.

Anyone heard of anything like this?  Anyone have any ideas on how this might be done?  I'm trying to get a mental image of this type of ring, and the ideas I have go from really pretty, to really scary.  :/  So far, the wrap idea is the one that seems to work the "best" in my mind.  Has anyone seen anything similar?

  • I've never heard of this or seen it, but you could always have it made.

  • Maybe just tell him you want each others names engraved in the bands, and ask for a style of engagement ring you like.  There is no sense in paying tons of money for a custom ring and then hating the outcome!

Thanks for the input so far ladies!

What he described initially sounded like the bands themselves were the names, and to me, that sounded...unappealing.  I mentioned the wrap idea to him this morning, and he said that wasn't it, that the e-ring looked like a "traditional" e-ring (solitaire, I'm assuming), but just had the woman's name on it, and the wedding band interlocked with that one, with the man's name on it.  I already wear a ring my mom gave me which has my deceased older sister's name on it, and plan on asking him tonight if the names were more of the size as they are on my ring (about 1/10" high or so), and giving him my input as far as a design that I think would be really pretty incorporating what he's talked about.

I think that a heart-shaped solitaire with my name curving around the bottom/right side of it, and the wedding band that curves around the left and top of the ring with his name, would look really nice together, with the heart-shaped solitaire between the names.  For his ring, I think it would look nice to have his name and my name engraved or deeply etched into the band itself, and maybe a small diamond set between them?  Those are the suggestions I'm going to run by him tonight, anyway.

    Anyone have any other ideas?

    Thanks again!
