I'm Confused

So... I'm getting married in nine days, and life goes on. Obviously there's still work that needs to be done at my job, and there are still workouts to do (I workout like a crazy person all year long because I work at a Y), and people's birthdays, and friends to talk to, etc., etc.

The world does not stop for a wedding, so how come everyone keeps looking at me like I have five heads when I tell them I'm getting married next weekend? They all have one of two things to say:

1. "Wait... next weekend? You look really calm for someone who's getting married NEXT WEEKEND!"
2. "Are you even excited?"

Look, people... just because I'm not walking around with a perma-smile plastered on my face, wearing a shirt that says I'M A BRIDE LOOK AT ME PAY ATTENTION TO ME doesn't mean I'm not excited. And what is there to not be calm about at this point? Everything is done. It's just all very confusing to me, that's all. Apparently I'm not acting the way a bride is SUPPOSED to act. Tongue Out

Re: I'm Confused

  • Could you send some of your calm my way? I could use it... But I'm with you. People are amazed to hear my wedding's in three weeks, since I'm not starving myself to fit into a dress or freaking out with vendors on the phone or DIYing random wedding related items at my desk during lunch, or break, or when I'm supposed to be working. I'm also not taking any time off work, which gives some folks the idea it's not special to me.
  • Yeah I feel the same way. I am getting a little anxious though. More because I am not a fan of being up in front of people. Well and I made a lot of the stuff for our wedding and put everything together so I'm hoping that people don't hate it!

What they don't really realize is that I worked really hard to have most everything done before Christmas so I didn't have to freak out!

<div>Amen sistah! I've also worked hard to have everything done so that I wouldn't have to freak out right before! I'm anxious about being in front of people, but I try to put it out of my head and at least put up a calm front.</div>

<div>I am sending massive amounts of calm your way!!! And I definitely hear you on some folks thinking it's not special to you. But for cryin' out loud - it's a wedding, they happen everyday, in every way, all across the globe! Life goes on.</div>

  • So many people have asked how long I am taking off to take care of things before/after my wedding. I said only one day right before because we switched from a Sunday (Nov '12) to Saturday (Jan '13) . My mom, sister and moh all said I should take that Friday off thats why I am. Other than that I am a teacher and trying to get all the grading/planning done so I can atleast enjoy that last week without too much stress at work.
  • I'm getting married on 1/19 and I get it.  I can't take Friday off because I'm in nursing school and have a Friday clinical and everyone is surprised.  But you know what I think its great to stay calm under pressure, alot of my friends have been a mess during this time and I think being calm is big gift to yourself!! go us!
  • I'd have to agree with you both! And keeping busy definitely keeps you from going crazy and/or getting anxious.

  • The only time I got nervous was right before I started walking down the aisle. I had moments of being slightly frazzled, but not enough that it showed to anyone but DH. Everyone kept asking me if I was nervous. That one got on my nerves. I've been with the same guy for 10 years, why would I ber nervous?!
