Exchange of Rings

Good morning! This is my first post on this board and hopefully it makes sense :)
Are you girls wearing your engagement ring when you walk down the isle or are you giving it to the best man along with the wedding band? My FI brother just got married and his new wife gave the engagement and wedding band to my FI (best man at their wedding) so the priest could bless them both and so her wedding band could be put on first. She didn't want to have to worry about quickly taking her engagement ring off so the groom could put the band on her. Just wondering if there is a standard for this and what others are doing.

Re: Exchange of Rings

  • I think in general everyone does what works best for them. Some people do what you're suggesting, some wear their engagement ring on their right hand and switch it over after the ceremony, some just wear their engagement ring and then switch the rings after too.

I'm not sure what I'll be doing, but I know my e-ring doesn't fit on my right hand, so that's not really an option. There's not really a "standard" way of doing it.

    [Also, it's "aisle", not "isle"]
  • There's no standard.  You do what you want to do.  Some people do that, some wear their engagement ring on the right hand until after the wedding band is put on, and some people wear their engagement ring on the left hand and switch it and the band after the wedding.  It's all up to you.

  • Is there a significance to which side of the Ering the wedding band rests?

Our ring designer told me you put the wedding band closest to your heart, so on the inside.

Thanks, I've been wondering about that for a while!
  • Ive also heard it said that your left ring finger is the only finger with an artery/vein that goes straight to the heart...sorry, not sure of the exact technical term.
  • Ok, is it weird that I don't want to wear my e-ring at all? I mean, I saw a video on Youtube of a ceremony where the bride's mother kinda subtly removed the bride's e-ring before she was given away at the alter & her FI just put the band on her finger. I've brought this up to my mom but she thinks it's incorrect & weird. I'm not sure if anyone else has done this. I just don't wanna wear my e-ring & a band together, I have small fingers and I know they won't fit.
