Dress change???

Hey ladies....question...are you changing out of your wedding dress at the reception after the first dance? My sister got married last year and said how much she hated staying in her dress all night and suggested I have a second dress. She also had a tube top. I always said I wouldn' because I wanted everyone to see my dress all night long but now I am thinking about it. What do you think??? and Are you changing dresses?

Re: Dress change???

  • I'm probably going to regret not having a change of dress, but i feel like if i do, the dress will be a waste of money... I know, it`s weird.
  • That's exactly how I feel...I'm thinking of getting something I can wear again...maybe in purple or teal (my wedding colors) and have it there just in case. I don't want to waste money on something I may not wear again!!! But then is it bad to not wear another white dress?
  • I thought about it, but I don't think I will. At weddings I have seen, the bride changes into another white dress. I feel that changing out of white sort of takes away from you as the bride because your BMs will be in your wedding colors, but I realize other brides don't even wear white, so to each her own. White doesn't make you a bride, by any means, but this is just how I would feel.

I bought a second dress recently. My original intention was also to buy something that I can easily rewear, but then I fell in love with a short white dress. It's kinda bridal. But as long as I don't wear it to a wedding, I think I can get away with it if I add a colored sash or something.

I'm wearing my gown the whole time until after the cake cutting. From then on, there really aren't anymore formal pictures. That should be around 8:30p-9p. Then I'll swap into this dress. It was about $150 at Nordstrom.

Plus, I need to drive us home at the end of the night and didn't really want to spend more $ on a limo or bother family. I certainly can't drive in my gown!

ETA: I didn't really care if I looked like a bridesmaid or like a guest in my second dress. Honestly, everyone there knows you're the bride, no matter what you wear. It just turns out that this one looked best on me.
  • Hmmm...maybe silver....that's one of my accent colors...I'm going to start looking...just in case. I'm so torn about this...lol. I hate when I can't decide on something...it makes me stress over something not important...lol

I'm like most of the other girls.. I don't want to only wear my wedding dress at the ceremony because our ceremony is going to only be about 30 min IF that. BUT my dress is sheath style and very tight. Fortunately, our wedding and our reception is being held at a beach-front hotel, so I'm thinking I'm going to go ahead and buy a cute, white, short party dress that I can change into during the reception if I need it and definitely for the after party. I'm just trying to find the one now! Any suggestions on where to look?

  • I love my wedding dress so much and since I will never get to wear it otherwise, I want to wear it for the ceremony AND reception. :)

On the other hand though, I don't see anything wrong with changing your dress. It's your wedding and you should feel comfortable in what you're wearing! Why not get a dress that you would wear otherwise and have it handy in case you want to change? This way if you find that you actually do want to wear it, it's there.

  • I dont' think there's anything wrong with having a reception dress.  I thought about it, but my wedding dress is very lightweight and easy to move in, so I'm not going to change out of it until we leave for the night.  I think if I had a heavier dress I would probably think about changing into something else.

  • Yeah my dress is pretty lightweight too and I don't think I'll need to change it.  In fact our wedding is in the morning and the reception will be over by 1:30 / 2 p.m. so we might check it at our hotel and catch our second wind and change back into our clothes to go out that evening.  Not too late though considering 6 am flight to Miami the next day :-P
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • I love my wedding dress, and I want all the nights pictures to be of me in it.  I actually just got back from my second dress fitting and my seamstress mentioned that she felt it would be overkill.

Wow, I'm not even having my FIRST fitting for another 2 weeks...I feel behind.
  • My 2nd fitting is in 2 weeks!  :)  It seemed so far out - when we booked it!  I'm not changing into another dress - i'm so excited to wear mine!!  If anything, i may take off the crendoline.

  • I am not changing, since the dress was so much money and the ceremony is only going to be about 20 minutes.

  • While I dont think there is anything wrong with changing your dress after the ceremony I personally will not change. My one BIG expense that I allowed myself was my dress so that I could have the dress I was in love with so I want to keep it on as long as I can hehehe. I mean how many times will you get to wear your wedding dress! So I think either option is fine I just really love my dress and want to show it off all night long.

  • My dress is so big and beautiful that i am gonna change it when the party starts its just to much to dance in all night. I ordered me a beautiful long ivory gown that moves when i dance. great price.
  • I'm debating this too

I love my wedding dress - it's not heavy, or uncomfortable (I have to fly with it), and I want to stay it in for most of our pictures.  However in my culture often the bride changes into a traditional dress sometime during the reception, so I may do this.  I already have one that I can borrow so it's easy if I decide to do so.

  • I'm also up in arms about this...

Not sure what I'm gonna do but definitley if I choose a second dress it will not be ivory or white...will choose something that I can wear again!
