Speaking of dresses...

When are you ladies having your fittings done? I've had mine for about 2 months in my MOH's closet. I only need to take it in a little, shorten it, add a hook for the back, and have bra cups sewn in. Also, I'm going to try snipping the tails off of the sash/bow to see how I like it (for those keeping up with that saga... lol!)

Sooo... when should I do this???

When are you?

Re: Speaking of dresses...

  • my dress won't be in until June and I will start my fittings then. My BM dresses should be in then by too so hopefully we can all have our fitting together

  • I've had my dress for a few months now as well, but I'm not having my fittings until June-ish.  I've been losing inches like crazy and don't want to get it done too soon.  I'm actually scared that they won't be able to take my dress in enough and that I'll have to order a smaller one :(

I think the summer is a good time.  When I picked my dress up, I asked the lady at the store and she recommended 12-14 weeks before the wedding day.
  • the dress shop told me to schedule my 1st fitting for july, so i'm going with that.  my dress should be in around june 10.  =)  i think i'm in good shape, though, as it appears i'll only need the hem taken up!

  • Honestly, I don't want to get anything done until the latest possible timeframe for alterations. I'm trying to lose weight so I don't want to have more alterations than I need if I start too early. I'm thinking I'll go in mid/late July (but I do have a dress with very little/no embellishments to worry about.)

My height with shoes should be perfect for the length and we ordered it in the smallest possible size that I could fit in now, JIC my weight loss doesn't exactly pan out, but I also changed it from zipper to corset back when I ordered it so hopefully my alterations will be minimal.
  • I live 2.5 hours away from my wedding location and where my dress is being kept so doing multiple trips down for alterations would be a total pain.  There is an amazing bridal gown seamstress in Raleigh and I've booked them with her.  She is SO sweet!  I will have my first fitting on Saturday September 1st at noon, she will then work all afternoon and I will have my second fitting Sunday September 2nd at 10am.  She will make any final adjustments and I can pick up the dress that evening!  I will then do bridal portraits on the 4th.  This was all the seamstress's idea!  I was totally expecting to have to make multiple trips.

I'm trying to lose weight so I wanted to push alterations to the last possible moment and still be able to do bridal portraits in time :)

  • My dress won't be in until May so I'll wait until it comes to see what the bridal salon suggests (the do the alterations too). I've actually lost weight since November when I bought the dress, but it was not planned. On my frame, a 5+ lbs difference on a figure shaping dress makes a difference. We'll see where I'm at this summer but I tend to stay the same weight generally so even if something needs to be altered it wouldn't be by much.

  • I'd like to wait until June or July.  To start and finish in August.  My body changes so rapidly from each end of the spectrum.  Right now I'm happy I went with a corset for the upper body, if I change dramatically.  I'm just petrified of my "child bearing hips" not fitting!  (I hate when people tell me that)
  • my dress doesn't come in until april/may, and then i'll probably try to find a seamstress. i don't know what their schedules are like, etc. i'm hoping to have my last fitting only a week before the wedding.

i still don't know where i will be keeping my dress. Dan and I live together so that's sort of out of the question. i suppose i could keep it at my dad's house.
    Happily married since 9/1/2012!

Probably July? I want to wait as long as possible. I'm a little nervous since I measured perfectly for the smaller size but we all though there was too big a gap in the back- it's a corset. So I ordered the larger size. I guess we will see- my store said going down up to 2 sizes is NBD.

  • My seamstress told me to call her in May to setup an appointment.  I'll probably start the process in late May/early June.  She is going to be making some significant changes so she wants to make sure she has plenty of time.  Hopefully my girls dresses will be in by then so we can try to do a bunch of us at once.

  • I'm having mine done some time in june.  I've had the dress stashed at FMIL's house for a while now.  I'm looking forward to having the bustle done though.

  • When my dress came in in October they told me to call back in a few months to schedule the first fitting for July.

  • Okay. So I'll call her in May and schedule one for June/July, then. =) Thanks for the help everyone!
  • From what Ive heard you're right on with that timeframe. My date is Sept 29 and the lady at the bridal store told me to call back in June to set up a first fitting in July. I want to put it on before that though! haha.
