Alterations Apprehensions

Hi there! So, after careful research on this board, i am pretty certain that you all are fairly confidant in either Jeanine or Judy. I have contacted my DOC and she recommends Judy,
I have contacted Jeanine and she seems as nice as nice can be and very flexible and accomodating. My gut reaction is to go with Jeanine, expecially after seeing such stellar reviews on here, and not so nice things said about Judy.
HOWEVER.... if you all remember, I am one of the girls that got burned by Savannah Grace, and I wass actually able to get my original dress delivered to me by using anohter bridal shop to contact the manufacturer. So needless to say, I am a little apprehensive about where to take this dress for alterations.
My question is, shoud I be concerned that Jeanine does her business in her house and doesn't seem to have an actual business? Does she have a ligitimate business that will back me up if anythign goes wrong? Where are her credentials? Please help me to understand how some of you were just so willing to give your dress over to a lady who takes it back to her house to work on, not knowing anything about her house, or having the BBB back her up? Or does she? Any help on this matter so I can make a more educated decision would help!!!

We went with Jeanine. The reviews are what sold us. I've also met Judy was was underwhelmed with her attitude. Who needs it and she is twice the price. I understand your issues and if I was in your shoes I'd feel the same way. Maybe if you are honest with Jeanine and ask her about your concerns she will solve them for you.
We had no issues with her. She had to take in the dress about 2 inches, do a hem that was a long train, and fit a French bustle all for $150 (other estimates were $200 and $250). It was a total of 2 fittings and a final check.
I know it's really not the $$ for you; so I'd meet with both and talk to them about your experience, then decide.
    GL!

I haven't been on the board in awhile, and I had to chime in to this question-

In the past, there have been many good reviews of Judi on this board, including mine. (reviews in CFL bio)
She has altered two of my bm dresses and my wedding dress. I had no issues, and I actually had a great time everytime I had a fitting.
She is no nonsense, so if you are looking for warm fuzzies, she won't provide that, BUT she knows her stuff and gets it done quickly.

i would ask her if she is insured in case your dress is damaged, etc. if she isn't, go with judy. she isn't all smiley and sweet, but she is good and has a legitimate business.

I would not go to Judy the Seamstress.  You can read my review of her in the link below.  It is the first review.  I was really upset by Judy's attitude and her unwillingness to fix things to make my dress fit me.  Everything was an argument with her and she was rude.  I stopped trying to get her to fix stuff I didn't like or didn't fit right and just paid her and then took the dress to Jeanine who fixed the bustle to be more how I wanted it.  Judy may have quality work but she doesn't care whether you feel comfortable in your dress or if YOU think it fits right or if you like how it looks or if you're happy and she's difficult to deal with.  Judy shortened my dress and fixed the chest but it still was too big in my chest and too long.  No amount of arguing got her to fix it and you can see partially into my dress in a lot of pictures which I think show too much boob.

Ask Jeanine if she has insurance.  I'm pretty sure she does have insurance if she were to lose your dress. You can also ask her for a written estimate with the cost of the dress plus the cost of the alterations on it if you want some sort of written proof.  She actually comes to your house to do all the fittings and then takes your dress to her house.

If you are super nervous, you could always just get alterations done at the store.  I don't think it would be horrible it would just cost more.

I liked Judi. She did not have an attitude with me (but then again, my tolerance threshold is much more than others) she got along well with my mom, sisters and brother. She is worth the money (she did my dress, and 2 BM dresses) because she does know her stuff.

I recommend Judy.  As the others have said, she is no nonsense and will tell you exactly what she thinks.  But she knows her stuff and is amazing.  I purchased a very expensive gown out of state and was very worried about getting it altered.  She was amazing, and doesn't do anything that doesn't need done.  My wedding planner even had Judy make her wedding dress.
