Thoughts on dessert bar @ Ceresville Mansion

I know I sound completely nuts for saying this, but I hate cake. All cakes, all flavors, all shapes and sizes. Which is why I'm on a search for an alternative.

I was thinking on having a dessert bar that would include candies, mini-pastries, mini-cupcakes (I have a thing for mini) and some small butter cookies. Is this tacky? And does anyone know if a venue will allow me to bring my own candies and jars/glasses/stands/ect?

Thanks guys@

I actually think that this is a great idea! Especially if you dislike cake...go for it!! Most caterers should be able to come up with yummy miniature goodies that you could display on pretty trays or stands. If you already have a caterer, I would check with them first! Good Luck!!

If you don't like cake--do what you like!

Have you thought about colored maccaroons? I've seen some really pretty ones in bridal magazines.

If you don't like cake, I wouldn't spend your money on one! If you feel like you may be missing the "cake cutting experience" then buy a mini cake  so you can cut it, then just buy a cheap sheet cake from a grocery store or bakery for the guest (noone will know the difference!!) And as for you & desserts, what about a chocolate fountain? You can have strawberries, bananas, pineapple, marshmallows, pound cake, etc. and it could all be dipped in CHOCOLATE yum!!

*Ohh and i just remembered...you can actually hire a coldstone creamery employee to cater the dessert section of your wedding! You chose a few signature creations and they bring everything to make their wonderful icecream

One thing my fiancee and I were going to do was cupcakes - b/c we're not big cake people either and it gave us each a chance to pick our own flavors.  If you're interested a great local baker (she's just getting started with weddings but is phenominal!!!) is wicked good treats. (wickedgoodtreats.com) Jennifer is the co-owner with her sister and they make some traditional flavors but also have guiness cupcakes and the most amazing lemon-blueberry ones.  if you want to try them before buying she and her husband usually have a table set up at the Sugarloaf Mt. Farmers Market every saturday and her website will also tell you where she is on Sundays - usually the farmers market in olney but sometimes she's in clarksburg.
Ceresville is an amazing venue, my sister got married there in '04.

    I also hate cake!

We are doing cupcakes instead of a traditional cake. We dont want to miss out on the cake cutting experience so the baker is actually going to make a big cupcake for us to cut :)
