  I have not been to a wedding or reception there, but have been there for a party.  It was nice and seemed to be a good setting for small- to medium-sized events.  Have you gone over to walk through the rooms?  It's really easy to get to ... just a quick walk from the Union Station metro stop.  Good luck!

  My sister had her reception there in December of 2006.  It was really nice, and ran pretty smoothly for the most part.  They took care of the bride and groom, made sure they had enough to eat, served the champagne, etc.  When they went back there for their anniversary a year later, they had their hotel room upgraded for free because they'd had their reception there.  They were really good about letting the photographer set up equipment in the room before we were supposed to use it, and everyone who got a meal raved about the food.  It was a pretty big event and everyone fit comfortably.
  
  They were pretty strict on IDing anyone who looked young before serving champagne, so if you have any family members who are 19 or 20 or who look young but don't bother bringing their IDs, and you want them to be able to join in the toast, that's something to consider.  I was only able to toast my sister because my aunt gave me her glass; I wasn't even offered a substitute like soda or sparkling cider (I was in the wedding party and with the emergency kit, vendor numbers, etc. I forgot entirely about bringing my driver's license).  *Edit to this:  I do look really young.  I look like a teenager, and I'm in my 20s.  They weren't carding anyone who looked like they were in their 20s.
  
  I also didn't get to eat any of the food; it was pretty much down to mashed potatoes by the time the wedding party got there.  We had been delayed a little bit for pictures at the church.  They had saved some food for the bride and groom, but I ate at the restaurant...though it is a really good restaurant!  In their defense, it was a large wedding (200-300), and it is possible that uninvited guests showed up and messed up the food to guest ratio (people sometimes interpret "And Guest," as 2 or 3 people.  Guest is apparently plural).
