insomnia

i have not had a good nights sleep in 4 days. i'll sleep for a couple of hours then wake up for 3-4 hours then go back to bed for an hour - and wake up again.. i'm afraid i'll look like a zombie for the wedding if dont start sleeping right..(i have 9 days left)
i've been working out everyday, but i feel like thats giving me more energy instead of tiring me out :|

are any of you having "bridal insomnia"? what do you do to get to sleep?

Re: insomnia

  • I was starting to get insomnia and literally sleeping maybe two hours every night. I went to the doctor and they prescribed me something. Not sure if that would work for everyone but that's what I did.

  • Sometimes I take an OTC sleep aid. Usually one does it for me, since they make me a little groggy. I can relate to insomnia. I've been dealing with sleep issues for years, and I am doing a sleep study tomorrow night, as I average 4-5 hours of sleep a night. But for your case, you probably just have too much on your mind. Try an OTC sleep aid or talk with your doctor. I'm sure this is temporary.
  • Im right there with you, the other night I slept a total of 2 hours...not good when  you worked a 9 hour shift that ended late and then had to work a 8 hour morning shift the next day! Just cant turn my brain off some days with all the stuff thats going through it!

  • thanks guys.. i guess i'll try one of those OTC sleep aids, hopefully it will help.

  • You can take Tylenol PM or something and you should be okay. Especially if it's only for the next few days to get you some rest.

I have anxiety and used to have problems getting to sleep and would take Tylenol PM but it made me groggy the next day so my doctor told me about Melatonin. It's a natural chemical that your body makes to tell you when to sleep.

  • I take Melatonin. Its in the aisle with all the vitamins. It helps me get tired.

  • Be careful taking anything OTC to help you sleep if you are on any other meds. I would give your doctor's office a quick call, usually you can talk to a nurse and they'll offer some advice or the admin assistant can relay a message from the doctor to you. Just my thoughts! Good luck, I hope you start sleeping!

  • You can try ‘Focusing on breathing’ to get quality sleep and conquer insomnia. This technique reduces the flow of thoughts, calms the mind and relaxes the muscles, inducing quality sleep. The following mode of this technique can be tried when lying in the bed and needing to sleep.

Triple segment mode: Every finger has 2 cross lines, dividing it into 3 parts or segments. Place the tip of the thumb at the top segment of the little finger and breathe three times.  Move the thumb to the middle segment and breathe three times. Move to the bottom segment and breathe three times. Repeat the same steps at the next 3 fingers. At the thumb, place the tip of the index finger on its segments and follow the same steps. Then switch to the other hand and repeat the process all over. Continue to practise, switching the hands. When you wake up in the morning, you will be surprised how you slept so well last night!

We can use this ‘Focusing on breathing’ anywhere and anytime, to avert potential stress or dissolve built up stress!

Five other modes of ‘focusing on breathing’ - Segment mode, Counting mode, Feeling mode, Staring mode and 911 modes can be seen in this page
