October 2012 Weddings

What is your vision?

So I know it is early for us 10/12 ladies to do a lot of our planning, but I am curious as to what your vision is for your wedding. What colors? Do you want a theme? Casual or formal? How many guests? What will you splurge on?

For me- I am probably going to go with a deep red color with possibly a copper/dark orange and a bit of a fall/rustic theme. The other idea I am tossing around is a red/pink combo. It will be semi-formal wedding with around 60 guests. My splurges will probably be the flowers, cake, and my gown.

Can't wait to hear everyone else's answers!

Re: What is your vision?

  • I was looking at brown and light green and a little bit of orange.... but I have been finding a lot of different ideas while I have been browsing the wonderful web!  Found a teal and orange combination that actually looks pretty neat!  We'll probably have around 150 people and it will be formal.  So far, flowers look like they are going to be the BIGGEST thing I will be splurging on.  My Aunt is a cake decorator - so I have got that FOR FREE :)
  • I definitley want some kind of darker purple as my main color and i was thinking putting it with grey and a little bit of orange. and me and my FH are both going to wear purple shoes as a fun thing to do. :) Its so hard to stay with colors! i change my mind pretty much everyday. I want a formal wedding and probably will be around 150 guests or less. we want to have it at a venue where we can do mostly everything ourselves becasue my dad owns a liquor store so the alcohol will be free and he has a friend that could cater and could give us a deal. I dont really wanna over splurge on anything. I guess maybe flowers would be main purchase and my dress, but i dont want to spend over 1000 on my dress. Im sorry i said like every little detail i have ever been thinking. :)

I think for ours, we're leaning toward semi-formal & probably no more than 120 people due to budget concerns. FI has a HUGE fam and a huge social circle & would love to have a huge wedding w/250 people or more, but we just won't be able to afford to feed and house everyone!! I wanted a verrrryyy intimate destination wedding with immediate fam & very close friends, so we compromised on about 120. We want a venue that has kind of an open loft feel - exposed brick, lots of candlelight, that kind of thing. So that doesn't lend itself to anything too overly casual, but we're working within a tight budget, so it won't be too over the top...

As for color scheme, I'm thinking deep reds and chocolate browns, with maybe some splashes of orange or yellow. The colors come from a couple things - the favors are going to be caramel apples (my fav. fall treat!) and double as the escort cards, so there's some brown & red already...centerpieces will include large glass vases filled with coffee beans w/candles centered in the coffee beans (totally stole that idea from this site! :))...red is one of my favorite colors & I'm contemplating wearing a red ball gown for the ceremony, depending on whether we go indoors our outdoors. If we go outdoors, I'll wear something a little more simple. I want gerbera daises in my hair and as any flowers we may have (we want to keep the flowers minimal, not really my thing), so that's where yellows and oranges may come in.

As for splurges, the venue and the food is def where the majority of our money will be going. Really good food is a must for us as I am kind of a foodie myself...and I would rather spend a good chunk of money on a fabulous venue that doesn't need too much decorating, and DIY it all, then to go cheap on venue and have to spend a lot on decs we'll never use again to make it look decent. I also want two dresses, so that *may* be another splurge, but I'm hoping to do that super cheap. I want a short white dress for the reception so I can dance and feel light/not weighed down by some huge wedding dress...but I am hoping to get my ball gown/ceremony dress for under $500 online, and the reception dress for under $200 from J. Crew, or similar retailer - maybe even something like ModCloth! :)

Ahhh.....my posts are always so inappropriately long! Sorry ladies; just so exciting to dream and start planning!!! :)

  • Wow! I love everyone's ideas!

My fiance and I are getting married on October 11, 2012. It's a Thursday evening so we're saving a lot on venues because we're doing things on an "off" day.

I've actually been doing a lot of planning! We booked our ceremony venue to lock in the price and for fear that the date might be popular (10-11-12). As much as we can do at this early date, we are doing.

Our wedding will have around 100 people, and is semi-formal.

The wedding is peacock themed. So I pulled purple, teal green and light green as the colors to use,

I already have my wedding dress picked out, via etsy.com (highly recommended!).

We may have two years before we get married but I am super excited to get everything together!
  • whmyscal:

I LOVE your color ideas!  My mom wants me to have purple in my wedding... but my brother's wedding had a LOT of purple and I wanted mine to be different than my brothers. I like the combination of colors you are using though!
And I am right there with you - I have more than two years.... but I am getting things planned out so that this doesn't become a stressful thing!..... and it is so much fun to see other peoples' ideas and come uo with new ideas!
  • Ours is a gothic themed wedding. Our colors are hot pink, red and black.  We are renewing our vows on Oct. 31 and it will be an over the top Halloween celebration.

My girls are walking to The Phantom of the Opera at which point part of the way through it will cut to Get The Hell Out Of My Way and I will come out and try to push past the girls.  My mom will come over to me and be like, "Uh, no. Go back and do it right." I'll huff back out and the girls will continue down.  The Wedding Song from the movie The Corpse Bride will start at the "Here Comes The Bride" and I will walk out, properly this time....

The reception will be a huge party and will have music from Epica, Within Temptation, Leaves Eye, Visions of Atlantis, Kamelot, Krypteria and others.  I will be doing a waltz to the song, Blood Waltz.

I am making everything by hand, literally from my dress to the girls dresses and beyond.  It's going to be a blast.

Everyone ideas seem amazing. Our days seem so far away, but it is going to FLY by...

For my wedding, I think were going to have around 150 people.
Colors are going to be like a light green (David's Bridal calls it Clover! heh) 4 girls, 4 guys plus me and the boy=10..i like even numbers :)
I want it to be outside, but my groom does not want to risk the elements..we'll see about that ;)
For my dress, I've always envisioned this big white poofy princess dress, so maybe a strapless corset top, with lots of layers.

    First comes Love (2.23.2006)
    Then comes Marriage (6.23.2012)
    Then comes Baby #1 (5.10.2013)
    And Baby #2 (EDD 6.15.2014)
    In the baby carriage!
  • I want a very colorful wedding from greens, blues and purples, with peacock feathers and pearls I want my ceremony at the Jewel box in forest park which is an art deco style greenhouse and i am considering the thaxton speakeasy or the st. louis zoo for the reception
  • I really like the idea of having a secret garden/magical forest type theme. I wish I had saved the picture I came across to show you guys but, it was a reception inside a tent and it had to of cost bookew bucks! It literally looked like a magical forest and I've been in love with that idea ever since. Considering our tight budget, I'll be making my own manzanita branch/tree centerpiece, and attempt a theme similar. My colors I have chosen I actually came across in a bridal magazine, it was an ad for a plate setting; Mocha Brown, Champagne/Cream, and Avocado Green. Come to find out in another magazine, the plates were actually black not brown but I like the brown better. I dont care too much for the "fall" colors, mainly because everyone does them and its predictable. No offense to those of you who have chosen those colors, they are very pretty but their just not for me.

Everyones ideas sound fabulous, I am lovin the peacock theme. Thats something Im starting to see more of. Good luck to everyone in the process of planning!
  • Hello Everyone!! I am another newly-engaged October 2012 bride!! AH! So excited!! We are doing burnt orange and black with accents of eggplant purple and ivory!! I love love love the colors!! I will be having an all eggplant-colored bouquet while my girls will be wearing their own black dress of their choice (to save them $!) with orange, purple, and ivory colored bouqets, and the boys will be in their own black suits (to save them $ too!) with burnt orange vests/ties. My FH will also be in his own black suit but with an ivory vest/tie! We are trying to stay on a very tight budget since I am in grad school, but we will still be having a wedding with about 250 people..we have some good connections through family members (thank goodness)! I will be making as much as possible- flowers, invites, centerpieces, all decorations, dessert bar, etc. We are going for a relaxed, rustic fall evening!

  • i love the idea of red and pink together for fall that's so different! I like the concept of fall colors with a pop of something unexpected. I'm not going too crazy but besides the whole orange, yellow and brown deal i'm adding a bright coral-ly red instead of a fall red. I'm gonna carry red-coral poppies and my maids are gonna have dresses that are the same with white poppies.. And my venue has all these beautiful gold details that I want to play off of. My splurge is definitely my venue it's a mansion that me and my fiance absolutely love and the ceremony spot used to be a small backyard theatre where the rich owners would go to watch small plays.. *swoon* Our theme is a Halloween/harvest/New England type thing with apple dumplings at social hour and a turkey dinner followed by a pie bar. I can't wait!!

YES yes yes! We are going DIY all the way.. from invites to centerpieces to ceremony decorations, my sandals, jewelry that I'm making for my girls, flowers, etc. etc.

We are an a very tight budget and we have two years so I figure, why not?
  • My vision as of right now is a woodsy-fall theme with birch bark and lots of candles.  We're planning on having under 100 people (which will be very hard because he has a HUGE family) and having it be semi-formal.  We are having the wedding at his church and the reception at the local banquet hall.

  • I am actually going for a destination wedding!  Does anyone have any fabulous suggestions on where?  I was thinking Fiji....  Of course with the beach setting, how can I go about chosing my colors?  I have some ideas, but really want this to be simple and elegant.  (can it be both?)

I absolutely love fall colors (red/orange/yellow/brown) but my future brother & law and his wife used those for their fall wedding so we wanted to do something a little different & unexpected for our October 6th wedding.
We are doing simple yet elegant & classic: black & ivory. Kind of a vintage/antique/macabre feel.Plus it goes perfectly with our venue choice, since we chose a prety old inn on Owasco Lake in Auburn, NY. I am excited about beautiful pictures with the fall foliage! I'm going to do black candleabras for the centerpieces and my 2 ring bearers are going to carry tiny white pumpkins. My flowers are going to be a darker pink (since it's my favorite color) with ivory and light green :)

  • Everyones weddings sounds so amazing. I know it seems so far away for all of us but hopefully the time will move fast. It is so exciting to start looking at everything. I am trying not to get too much started yet. We will be having a depp purple and gold wedding. The colors for me was a very easy decsion. Purple has always been my faborite color and I think the Gold adds to it. The vision I am trying to make is a elegant, regal sort of wedding, with elements of fun. If That makes any sense at all. :)

I am going to have a hard time with my budget and what we can and cannot spurge on. I love everything. But I know we will splurge on the venue and the photographer and videoagrapher, and my dress. Everything else is negotioable. Tht is if anything is left ;)
