Where to buy the dress

I'm looking for suggestions of places to buy my wedding dress in the Baltimore/DC area.  We'll be married at the Gramercy Mansion, so I'm looking for a lacey/antique feel, any color but white, possibly champaigne or golden, with little to no train.  The problem is I'm petite, only 5 1 and everything is too big everywhere. I bought one dress already and it's over $700 to alter, so I'm looking again.  Where did you buy your perfect dress?  Any suggestions are appreciated.  Thanks and congratulations on your special day.

Do you like your original dress?  Honestly, if I were you I wouldn't focus on buying a new dress, but getting another opinion on how much it would cost to alter.  I can't think of many stores in the area where you could buy a new dress for under $700 other than David's Bridal.

I agree with Tree.  There are a a lot of girls here that can recommend seamstresses - maybe they'd be cheaper than $700 to alter your original dress.

Can we see a picture of your original dress?  When is your wedding?  Ditto pps, there are some excellent seamstresses in the area that might be able to work with you for a much more reasonable price.

My best friend got her dress at a trunk sale for well under $700 at Gamberdella's Bridal in Towson.  That is also where I got my dress.  You could Check out Francesca's Bridal in Overlea, as well. I got my prom dress there and my mom, aunts, grandmother, and FMIL all got their dresses for my wedding there.  Warning, though... Francesca's gets mixed reviews (we have had mixed experiences with them).

Betsey Robinson's in Pikesville and Bridals by Elena in Glen Burnie/Pasadena are both very nice, but I believe on the pricey end.

David's definitely has stuff well under $700.  I have heard peope prefer the store in York, PA as opposed to the one in Glen Burnie, MD.

Ooooh- one other idea- check out some stores in Delaware... no sales tax, that could save you a good amount of $$

Good luck!!!!  Keep us posted and let us know if we can be of any more assistance.

Thanks for the ideas.  Sorry, I don't have photos of the originial dress.  It was a "used" dress and very cheap.  It's really not worth the $700 to get it to fit. So I'll be looking for another dress. Preowned is ok as long as it's closer to my size.

My friends have had mixed experiences there, I think it depends on the consultant and whether you have an apointment.  I had good experiences there - if you end up there see if you can get an appointment with Megan.

I went to Stella's Bridal on Eastern Avenue in Baltimore City. (I had gone to Bridals by Niko earlier that same day and the consultant was rude!! I hate poor customer service so I quickly left!) At Stella's everyone was friendly and helpful! And my dress, simple but beautiful, was only $375! (Not even $450 once all the taxes, ordering fees and everything else was added in!) I'd highly recommend Stella's!

July 30th one of the Filene's Basement's in DC is having their big "Running of the Brides" thing.  All their dresses are under $700.   I actually went to one when they had it up at the Filene's that used to be in Towson - but I went after I got off of work, and there were not many people there..  I think it's only crazy when they first open.  They still had a large number of dresses, and I was able to take them back to the dressing rooms to try them on.
