Shower money

I know you're not supposed to use the gifts you recieve until after the wedding, but what's the "rule" about money someone gives you?  We've had a few people send us checks already.  Is it ok to put them in our savings account so long as we don't use it yet?  I just don't want to leave a check sitting around until after October and have someone forget they wrote it.

Re: Shower money

  • Of course you should deposit the money :)

It'll mess up your guests' accounts if you don't deposit for a few months since most of them will have already accounted for the balance.
  • Yes, deposit them now - I know it ticks people off when you wait a long time to deposit a check and then all of a sudden the money is "missing" from their checking account.  Don't USE the money yet, but definitely get it in the bank.
  • Deposit the check, and when you write your final check for the venue, use it then.  But don't deposit it until you send your thank you.  It really bothers me when someone deposits my check and I didn't get a thanks first.
