I have a back yard with weeds in it.
My birthday is this Friday. I'm supposed to have dinner guests - FI, his parents, possibly his brother, and a friend of ours. Already living in my house are myself, my mother, my two sisters, and my son. There's no room in the house for ten people to eat, and the dogs are all over guests, especially when there's food involved. So my mom and I decided that we're just going to have to set up the card table next to the patio table on the deck and eat out there.
Well, as of this morning, our patio (the first thing you see when you walk out the back door) was completely weed-infested. And the deck is yet unfinished - one last board to screw in, extra lumber, tools, and leaves all over it, chairs scattered everywhere. It was a MESS. I cleared the deck first. My youngest sister and my two-year-old babysitting charge helped me clear the lumber and tools, and I swept the deck and put the last board in. It needs to be screwed in, but it's at least set in place for now. I'll screw it in before Friday. Sister's boyfriend helped me clean and move the patio table and chairs to the deck. So that's done, mostly.
This evening I hacked all the weeds up from around the patio. Most of them are gone, but there are some stubborn roots. But I spent 45 minutes hacking weeds and tilling dirt to make sure I'd gotten them all, and I was too tired, sweaty, and dirty to continue tonight. I'll get the rest of them tomorrow.
So far as what's left to do tomorrow, I still have to finish ripping up the weeds, lay new mulch, clean the patio, and screw down that last deck board so no one trips on it. But the bulk of the hard work is done.
