Travel Agents?

Ok - We started honeymoon planning, wooohooo!!! Somewhere in the Carribean I think, end of April. We want to do an all-inclusive resort.

I have always been a do it myself type person when it comes to vacations - I'm fine with searching through the million online sites, checking back, and finding good deals! But I've also never done an all-inclusive resort type vacation before. It seems like everyone has used travel agents for this!

Did you? Was it worth it? And how much does a travel agent typically cost?? I know nothing about this - someone inform me!!

Re: Travel Agents?

  • Travel agents usually don't charge you a fee for their services.  They are compensated by the resorts.  I've never done an AI before, but a friend of mine has and she's always used Apple Vacations.
  • There is no reason to us a TA if you doing AI and already know all the particulers  of your trip.
Just go online and book it. It's really that easy.
TA's are great if your a bit confused  or on the fence about where you want to go or have different legs of your trip.

I disagree. A TA doesn't cost anything, so why not use one? We were super thankful we did because when we had some issues at our resort, we had someone we could contact who could help us.

  • I agree that it doesn't hurt to talk to one, but also do some research on your own. For our honeymoon the TA I spoke with quoted me almost 1000 more a person than what I paid through Orbitz. She then proceded to tell me that I should cut the length of my trip or downgrade my room category to get what I wanted. She then stated that she may be able to match it, but it would have to be approved by a supervisor, then if the price went down further, I was SOL....My advice would be to talk to one, get some ideas, and do research online through Orbitz, Expedia, Apple or a travel site because we found the best deal for our HM through Orbitz, and we couldn't have been happier with our HM.

  • Too cute! I hear ya about the energy... ours has TONS... but taking her for her daily runs helps keep me in shape, so I can't complain! :)

  • Our TA didn't cost a thing bc we were members of AAA. She was great and her advice and expertise was invaluable.
