National Hispanic Cultural Center for Venue?

Hi everyone! This is my first post although I have contacted a couple you by email asking questions.

I live in Los Angeles and work is crazy, so my mom and brother are doing all of my wedding planning for me in Albuquerque. My dad is paying (for most of it). So my mom and bro LOVED the NHCC and my dad LOVED the price. I am pretty sure that's where I'm getting married since they made me choose a date yesterday!

Does anyone have any thoughts on this venue? Have you seen it or been to a wedding there? I tried to find wedding pictures there online with no luck.

I appreciate the help ladies!

Katy

I *adore* the NHCC, and the food caterer is a sweetheart.  It was my #2 pick - I think you should go for it.

I did find a few shots of weddings and the NHCC here:

Thank you! Well, my dad put the deposit down for it today, so I gotta love it! The big day is Sept 18. Now for the fun part...planning! We have a tight budget, so any advice on good but cheap florists, cakes, djs, photogs, please let me know! It's so tough planning from out of town.

we just interviewed MaggieM photograghy today (maggiebyers@msn.com) She was really really nice and for our friday date she under $1000 for the entire day. We also Talked to Sweet Willaims Photography and he is under $2000 for us too. I'm waiting to hear back from refrences for both though.

I really didn't think that Maggie did quality photos at all - most of them were equivalent to guest photos.

    Florist - I love Melba's flowers.

DJ's - Too Hot to Stop will give you the best deal for the major DJ's in Albuquerque.

We are using Complete Music for our DJ, they matched Too Hot Too Stop's price and some friends recommended them. Just make sure you tell them what other prices you have been quoted.

Thanks everyone! I am going to look into Too Hot and Complete Music. For photos, I am really into VLADPhoto, but he is not cheap. My fiance is a graphic designer and photographer, so he's being really picky. If the website doesn't look modern or easy to use, it's nixed right away. If there is too much glare, or photos look too "pedestrian" (this was his term!) then no way. So far, Vlad is the only one he liked, so I told him to start saving. It's about $2500 for the cheap package and up to $4,500 for the full day coverage.

For videographer, I REALLY REALLY want Moving Sky productions. I'm hoping to book him soon. He's not cheap either, but worth it in my opinion.

What about cakes? Anyone have any good recommendations?

How many of you are going to the ABQ bridal show? I so wish I could go, but can't get off work. I hate planning this long distance!!

I used Say it With Cake (www.sayitwithcake.net).  Birdie is great, and charges by the serving.  From what I remember, the cake was about $600 for 200 servings for my November wedding (I don't know if prices have gone up since then), but she is great!

I also met with Sweet Wiliam Photography and we really loved him and his work. I think we are going to go with him, prices are reasonable.

I LOVED the NHCC but since we are having 175 people the ballroom next to the courtyard couldn't accommodate us in case of rain so we had to nix that idea. You will have a beautiful wedding the

Not sure when you are getting married, but I am getting married at the National Hispanic Cultural Center on June 27th and I absolutely love the venue and the price! It is a very beautiful setting, we are having our reception in the Ortega Salon and in the courtyard area.  The Salon opens up to the courtyard and it is the perfect setting for an indoor/outdoor wedding.  I am meeting with the caterer on Feb 21st so If you have any questions feel free to ask me!   Smile

Cakes- Unique Cakes by Karyn are the BEST!!! Promise!

Photography- Kevins Photography is the best! The most expensive package is about $2500.00 and they will give you every photo taken on a cd and all the rights to the photos so you can reprint as many as you want!!

I've been looking at the NHCC as well (my wedding is really far off, summer 2011) Where are you doing the actual ceremony?  For the catering, did you have to use La Posada? I'm interested to see how that turns out.....
