Bridesmaid Dresses

I am getting married 6/22/13.

My first question is I have three girls that live in different states. If I picked a designer like Alfred Angelo, how easy is it for girls to order their dresses, are the sizes accuarate if they get measures etc?

Is it just easier to stick with David's Bridal, where the dresses are all there to choose from?

Also, when should I have the girls get their dresses?

Btw I am letting them pick out their own dress.

I'd do a quick search for bridal boutiques around where each girl lives and figure out who has easy access to which designers before picking a specific designer (unles there's a specific AA dress you love).

Bridesmaids dresses are supposed to be ordered at about six months out, so some time this winter would be an appropriate timeframe for ordering and having time for alterations.

  • I think I am waiting until at least late summer early fall to take my girls shopping.  David's is really convenient for ladies spread abroad but I think you could be just fine with AA.  I would second that comment above about the same dye lot, Maybe have them all measured locally but have them report it to you (and confirm 100 times to be sure you got it correct!) and then order them all from the same location.  Technically the dresses can differ in color from batch to batch.

  • Thanks everyone, I was going to pick the color, length, and material for them so they don't have different shades. I like Alfred Angelo because they have lots of styles and colors I like, whereas David's I didn't see much but could pick something if I had to. I just don't want the girls to have a headache having to get measured and then the dress not fitting.
  • I think I will most likely go with AA dresses over Davids also. I dont think you should have any problem, AA is everywhere, but I would do a check where every girl lives to make sure there AA is available.

Also, hi and welcome! we are date twins!

  • I agree with all PPs but if your girls are all going to an AA store then maybe the store that takes each girl's measurements could communicate with your local store. I am in a wedding this June and all BMs had to order their dress at the same exact time because even if they were from the same dye lot the designer recommended that they all be cut from the same roll of fabric... I'm not really sure all of the technical terms. I know that we had to order an extra yard of fabric in case anyone got pregnant or gained a lot of weight!

[QUOTE]Hi Soon!   It would be pretty easy for them to go to a store and try on the dress and get it measured, but I would suggest you ordering them all together (from your close store) so they're all from the same dye lot.  Are you letting them pick out their dress from a certain designer in one color, or are you really lax about designer/shade?  If you are not really that picky,  then they'd be able to order themselves, but if you want all the same exact color and designer, order when you have all their measurements together. Hope that helps :)

Unless it is different shade of.a color.

  •   It's recommended that you get your bridesmaids dresses no later than 6 months before your wedding. Different dress, different size is what you have to remember. I was in a friends wedding and the dresses we had to wear were 4 sizes than my normal dress size and I was in another wedding and the dress size was the same size as my normal dress. If they couldn't try it on I wouldn't order it. I like Davids Bridal. Good luck
  • I say find the dress you like and you can work out the logistics later.  I'm in a wedding this weekend and the girls are all over the country.  We just sent our measurements to the store and then the bride mailed our dresses to us so we could do our own alterations. It worked fine.  Good luck!
  • Hiii sparkles776 :)! Thanks everyone, I guess after reading all of these I'm probably best doing DB, only because I have a very large wedding party lol and I really don't need the nightmare of measurements, ordering all at once etc. Thanks for the help!!
