Photo Guest Book

Hey Ladies! Happy Friday!

I was just checking to see if anyone is doing a photo guest book for their wedding or has done a photo guest book. If so, what type of paper did you choose? I’ve started to do mine in Shutterfly and I’m not sure what to pick, matte, glossy etc. And what type of pen/ink works best for this? I don’t want the pages to smear after someone writes in the book. Thanks! Smile

Re: Photo Guest Book

  • I would suggest using a Sharpie for the signatures.  Any paper in a photo book may smear but a Sharpie will be your best bet. You will still need to allow time to dry but they are permanent and are better than any other type of pens for this type of use.

  • We're still working on this but are planning on a photo guest book. I agree with the sharpies, that's likely what we'll be using as well.

  • Good post!  I just got my photo guest book in the mail.  Looks so great!  But I've been thinking about what to buy to write on it.  Too bad there's not really any way to test it on the pages.

  • We will be doing one through Shutterfly as well.  I'll probably do glossy and pray that using a quick drying Sharpie wont smear the crap out of everything.  If I don't do a gloss finish I'm afraid it will bleed through.  I made a calendar of our E pics on there and used gloss so I should go back and take a look at that and see if I think it'll be an issue.
  • I purchased archival pens for my guest book.  They are less likely the smear and photo friendly.  I agree about testing them out... it's so hard!

  • I am doing a photo guest book as well. I am crazy about scrapbooking, so I have scrapbook pages. The guests will have their photos taken and printed on spot like a photo booth on Photo Sticker paper. They will be signing with fine point sharpys (Walmart has about 20 different colors right now for back to school at $0.88 per). I have Wedding Scrapbook Stickers, and other decorations that they can put on the pages if they choose. All will be ready to go, so there is no glue involved.

I have a really bad memory after a car accident a few years ago, so we went this route instead of traditional guest book, because names on a paper doesn't read near as much to me as a photo of the person.

  • We're doing a photo guest book, too. Through iPhoto (Apple). My FI's done them for his parents for the grandkids each of the past 8 or so years, so we know what to expect. I was planning on getting some acid-free archival pens (the books use acid free paper, which is important for longevity). We've got photos of places around town that are important to us, and cheesy photos of us at those places, with some blank pages thrown in to make sure there are places for the longwinded. I definitely wasn't interested in a regular guestbook with signatures and addresses -- we know where these folks live -- we invited them! : )
