FI doesn't want boutonnieres.

We were discussing our wedding ideas, and my FI doesn't want his guys to have boutonnieres. This is his idea to cut some cost on our wedding budget.

I just was wondering if boutonnieres were a must for weddings? Or if the guys would look okay with just our wedding color handkerchiefs.

I was possibly thinking of just getting single stem flowers, and putting them in the jacket lapel.

Opinions are welcome & other options for our GM.

We are not having them either. Instead they are doing the hankerchiefs in the pockets. We were trying to cut costs as well and the only ones that will have corsages are the grandmothers. I think it's just a personal preference these days and it's more of a do what you want kind of thing. Make it yours! :)

Lots of people just have a pocket square.

    Bouts are definitely not required.

First bouts will not blow your wedding budget.  If you have, say, 5 guys and bouts cost about $8 bucks at a florist (could be more or less depending on location and could be a lot less if you DIY) you will save $40...not very much when you consider what you are spending on other things.

Anyhoo...bouts are not necessary and if you aren't doing bouts then I would forgo flowers all together.  Like a PP said a colored hankerchief would look really nice.

Like a PP said you can just do something like pocket squares.  Bouts are not needed.

    Thanks for all the help!

I like the pocket square idea a lot. I know bouts won't blow our budget because our flower of choice are daisies, which a pretty inexpensive.

I know of my ladies, are going to have one single dasiy, in white.

I agree, they are not required. We are not doing them.

We aren't doing them either.  The men will be in linen and we decided that a bout' may pull the shirt or weigh it down.  It's really up to you.  :)

    Good luck!

My FI was a groomsman at a friend's wedding recently and they did the hankerchiefs in a golden cream. It looked really nice, and I thought it added a nice clean look to the tuxes. I've also seen some people do cute personalized buttons, but that only works if your theme/feel would do well with it.
