STD questions

Okay, so I have a couple questions. First of all, FI & I are going to get more e-pics done by a train. Is it tacky to do the whole chalkboard or string of letters with the date on it? And please give me your honest opinions. We wanted to incorporate our wedding date, but I'm just not sure how other than that, so throw out some suggestions!

Second, I know some people find it offensive to have a kissing photo on the STD. Are yall having one? I don't really see the issue with it, but I don't want to offend a ton of people at the same time.

Also...what is a website where I can find cheap save the dates? Has anyone used wal-marts?

Thanks for the input...I'm getting kinda nervous because we need to get them out and I'm clueless. haha

Re: STD questions

  • Im not doing photo STDs, so I have no real input there. If you are doing pics near trains, maybe bring chalk with you and you can write the date on the rail and have you both in the background (maybe even kissing). It will have the date in focus and you two blurry, so maybe that will be a nice compromise?

Some other unique ideas is to write the STD on your hands and do a close up of you two holding hands., stuff like that. I personally love to see people use the STD information in subtle or unique ways.

  • I don't think kissing is offensive unless you have your toungues down each others throat (which a friend of mine did and it was terrible!)

  • This is going to sound strange, but it's actually an old caboose that is sitting in the woods near where we live. So there are no rails. But that sounded like a cute idea.

  • 1. We're not doing photo save the dates, but I sometimes really like them when I see them.  I usually don't like ones where they spell out the date in any way.  I think it's a little cheesy.  I like when they just have a beautiful photo of the two of them.

    2. I read a post on here about someone's mom getting all upset about a kissing photo... I would never think twice if I saw a kissing photo on a save the date.  I don't get the offensive part.  Did we step back into 1895 all of a sudden?  We're planning on a using a very artistic photo of ourselves in a garden kissing for our thank you cards.  You can't see us really clearly, but we are kissing!

    3. I'd also go with Vistaprint.  I've seen ones from different websites and they weren't the same quality as Vistaprint.

  • I am one of those people that really dislikes kissing photos. I do kissing on the cheek but that's about it. I'm not offended but I do find them a little weird (just personal preference). But if you love kissing pics you should do them, I would just suggest maybe keeping the kissing to one picture and not like 30 haha. I used magnetstreet.com for my STD's. They weren't the cheapest you could find but they definitley weren't the most expensive either. But idk if you want a magnet or not.

    Ditto.
Here are a couple of ways I've seen it be less "cheesey"

I also saw one where the couple was close together and the girl had the sign in her hand but her arm was down by her side with the sign lightly held in her hand. It was kind of haning behind her like an afterthought, but it was still pretty. Sorry I couldnt find the photo...

  • I just got my STDs in the mail (so excited!) and they turned out great. I ordered large magnets from Vistaprint and made my own design. Highly recommend vistaprint. I also bought a groupon so I got a great deal! Keep you eyes peeled for deals and you can really save some money on these!

FI and I used a large full-body photo of us with some scenic background for  our STDs and then a close up photo of us smiling. BUT, in the background photo we are kissing! I think it's really cute and romantic. I would agree with the other ladies about full-on make outs being tasteless, but I think a cute kiss photo is nice for a STD. We also included a photo of our faces so people would get the best of both worlds.

GOod luck! Sounds like the train photos will be cool!

  • Haven't done e-pics yet, so it's tough for me to comment on that b/c I still don't know what I'm going to do for STD pics...

In regards to the kissing pics, I agree with some of the PP. While I certainly don't find it offensive, I think many people put the STD on the fridge and IMHO, they don't need to see a kissing pic every time they go to the fridge... I think there's plenty of cute pics to use that don't involve kissing.

  • We took some kissing photos, but didn't use them on our STDs.

Mpix.com is really good for photo cards.  And they let you design them however you want.

If you register on their site, you'll probably get coupons for a percentage off, or free shipping or something.   We had free shipping with ours.
  • I wouldn't have a problem with kissing photo as long as it's tasteful.  I used freshimpressions.us for my STD magnets and it was a pretty good deal and great quality!
  • We just took our epix last week and I made chalk board signs!!! Once we get pix back well determine which ones we put on. It's your std pick the pic you like best.
  • I don't see anything wrong with you guys holding something with the date on it... I like turtle's ideas too.
I also don't see anything wrong with kissing photos, but as you can tell from these responses, the feelings about them are mixed, so just think of your family and friends you are sending them to and if you think they would find it "offensive" or whatever. We are doing a (tasteful) kissing photo on our STDs where we are each holding a heart. His says "I stole her heart" and mine says "So I'm stealing his last name".
