Anyone else use an organist?

We are going to be using the church's organist. He said he can play almost anything.

I really love Pachabel Canon in D. Is this strange to walk down the aisle to along with my bridesmaids?
Just trying to get some songs together to give to him.

Re: Anyone else use an organist?

  • Hm..I've just always wanted to walk down the aisle to that.
Would it be strange looking if I used a CD player just for that song, then used the organist for other things?

  • I had an organist. I had my BM walk down to that. But I think it's better for you to walk down to something else. The change of music signifies to the guests that you are entering. I didn't want here comes the bride. For some reason I can't stand that song. It's very pretty but I don't personally care for it. I opted to go down to the isle to Prince of Denmark which was beautiful also.

Here are some ideas that we used for our wedding:
Air from Water Music Suite (Handel)Sheep May Safely Graze (Bach)Ave Verum Corpus (Mozart)Air On The G String (Bach)Jesu, Joy Of Man's Desiring (Bach) - for when mothers enterCanon in D - for when bridesmaids enter

    Processional: Prince Of Denmark
Unity Candle: Ave Maria (Bach or Schubert,

Recessional: Wedding march from Midsummer night's dream - Mendenssohn
When guests leaveSpring four season - VivaldiHornpipe from Water - Vivaldi

Then talk to the organist for other ideas for the bridesmaid. If it's what you've always wanted to walk down the isle to, then you should. In regards to how it sounds on an organ, I think the type or organ & the player makes a huge difference. A basic organ is going to sound different compared to a large pipe organ, especially if you have an organist who can really play all the different options on the pipe organ.
  • Good ideas, thanks. I think I will walk down to Pachabel, and give my bridesmaid something else to walk down to. I just don't like the typical wedding march song.
  • Air by Bach is really nice, too -- my SIL used it for the bridesmaids' music.

If you do, though ... avoid the mistake another bride made of listing in the program that the bridesmaids' processional was "Air on a G String".  Yes, it's the full name of the piece, but ... awkward!!!
