Tricare Question (and I totally searched through old posts before posting)

Sooo as I was reading old posts it said that I would be automatically enrolled in Standard when I went to DEERS? Well, I just logged on to the beneficiary website thingy (forgive my lack of proper terms, I'm tired and frustrated), and it shows me having no insurance through military. (I still currently have my own insurance through work).

Old posts also said that the coverage is backdated until the day of the wedding. I know I can call Tricare tomorrow to figure this out, but I figured I would ask here as well.

And also, Prime or Standard? I am very rarely sick, only medicine is B.C.

Maybe it just isn't in the system yet? But yes you should be enrolled right away. Check the back of your ID and see if it says "medical" and "yes"

I have Standard and keeping it at that. From my understanding Standard is PPO and Prime is HMO. Also I'm keeping mine standard because we will be living in different city when get to our new duty station and I only need BC pills since I am never sick either.

It does say Medical Direct: yes

This is frustrating because if thats the case I need to print something out to show it to my current employer to get myself out of my insurance, or else I pay until open enrollment.

It automatically enrolls you in Standard?

Yes, you are automatically enrolled in Standard.  You have to go ask for Prime if that is what you want.  I prefer Standard.  My son has to see several specialists and I would rather pay to copay than have to deal with the referals and the crappy doctors at our clinic.

Ok, for second question. When I go to register for tricare online, it requires more information from me. Obviously, I'm beneficiary, but then it asks for info about affiliated service and such, would I put non applicable, or H's info?

Like PP, you are enrolled in Standard and you will have to enroll in Prime. I prefer Standard because I can see other doctors and I won't have to go to base everytime I have an appointment since we won't be living close to base.

Your military ID should be enough to show your employer, that is the proof that you are covered medically by Tricare. The Tricare office showed me that when I first got my ID, she even said if I ever needed to go to the ER just show them the ID because that's basically my new insurance card.

It's so weird, because it totally shows me not having any insurance online and is asking me to enroll in Prime. Very weird. I will need to call them tomorrow.

You would put your H's info.  I think it's probably best to call them in the morning.

Yeah, I'm going to. It's not a super huge deal since my insurance right now is costing me next to nothing per pay check, but I would like to get this figured out. It could just not be in the system yet, which I find weird.

Good thing I have a super easy day tomorrow :)

    Thanks Ladies!
