June 2012 Weddings

What's your transportation?

What are you using for your transportation? I feel like we need to have a limo to cart us from our ceremony to reception, and from the reception to our hotel. I think it would make for great "get away" pictures as we leave for the night.

My dress barely fits into a normal car, so that's kind of out of the question. How awkward would it be to get pictures while you're squished in a car with your dress? My mom says absolutely no on spending that much on a limo (I got a price for $750). Is that ridiculously high? Is there a way to make it cheaper?

What are you using?

Re: What's your transportation?

  • I couldn't justify spending over $500 for a limo for 2 hours so we're driving our cars. WP will drive their own as well
  • We're renting an SUV to take us from the hotel to our venue.  Cheaper than a limo, but big enough for my dress.  1st trip is the guys, 2nd trip is the girls, and 3rd trip is my Dad and I.  Only 6 minute difference between the locations.

  • We're using a limo, and that price is pretty comprable to what we're paying.  We'll use it to bring the guys from the hotel to the church, then to get me, my BMs & parents and bring us to the church, then to bring us to different picture locations between the ceremony & reception, then to the reception.  Our reception is in the ballroom of a hotel so we're staying right there the night of the wedding, as are the majority of our guests.

For us it was worth it because we do have a gap & need to take pictures during that time.  Out of the entire wedding party, only myself and my two MOHs are from the area, so I didn't want a bunch of cars getting lost trying to get to pictures & between venues.  My dress is also humongous so a regular car wouldn't work.

  • We're not getting transportation. The ceremony and the reception are at the same location. All of the girls will be getting ready in the bridal suite at the golf club. No need for a limo!
  • There is a place here that rents vintage cars with drivers and everything...I would LOVE it, they are beautiful!!! But 900.00$ and up for the day :( So just driving our car I guess.

  • Do you have someone willing to drive you? You could just rent a really nice car from Enterprise, Avis, etc. it would be a max 200 for the day.

  • Between FI, his brother and his best man we own three vintage cars that we'll be using

  • We have limos for the bridal party. To the ceremony I will ride in a Rolls Royce and FI will ride in the limo with the groomsmen and then after the ceremony we'll ride in the Rolls together.

  • The guests have nicer transportation than we do!

Since my family doesn't (read can't) drive in America and there are many OOT guests that could use transportation, we rented the party bus from a local limo company. I'm driving my car with my mom around the day of, my FI is coming with his brother to the venue and the rest of the WP is driving themselves.

After the wedding, FI and I are using our Jeep to drive to our "night of" accomodations and the party bus is dropping off my mom and the other guests to the hotels and their homes.

  • Our ceremony and reception are in the same location but we rented a limo to take me and my BM's there and then at the end of the night take us home. We paid 260 for a total of 3 hours 1 1/2 hours each way, it only a 1/2 hour drive so that should be more than enough
  • He are getting a Hummer Limo - but we have many out of town WP members, so figured it was easiest to have everyone together - we have our limo from 10am until 2am - our cermony starts at 12 - than a light lunch reception in the church banquet hall (WP has pics) than our reception starts at 5:30 - goes until whenever, they say usual is about 1-2am... and its costing $1200

  • My grandparents told me that they wanted to suprise us with a horse and carriage, but my grandma wasn't sure if I would like it or not, so she asked me instead of waiting to suprise us.  I LOVED the idea and said it would make me feel like Cinderella and it would be really cute for some pictures too.  My grandpa's friend has a horse and carriage and has done it for several other weddings.  They are going to take care of the cost for it and so they just need to find out what the cost will be and if it's not too expensive, they are going to do it.  I'm sure since he is my grandpa's friend he won't charge too much.  I am so excited and hope it works out!  I'm not going to tell my FI and let it be a suprise to him when we are leaving the church.  We would just ride off in it until we meet our MOH and BM and they will drive us to the reception since it's about 50 minutes away from our ceremony location.
  • We rented a small limo bus since we have a pretty big wedding party ( 12 + us) FI took care of the limo bus so I really can't  remember what they are charging us for it. I do know we get it for a total of 5 hours and it includes champagne and beer in the bus' wet bar!

We are doing a first look so this was the easiest way of getting everyone, everywhere efficiently. The limo is picking up the guys first and taking them to the first look location and then it will pick me and the girls up and take us to meet them. We will do our first look and then there is another location we are doing pictures in before the ceremony so we will all ride together between photo locations and then to the ceremony & reception (in the same place) The hotel shuttle will take us back to the hotel at the end of the night.

  • We have a party bus, equipped with rope lights and a pole - yes, a pole. It fits up to 30 people. We are using it to shuttle the guests from the hotels to the venue and also out to the bars after the reception ends!

  • Don't forget about leaving the reception ladies, for those of you going with your wp. I don't know about u but after the reception i would like that time alone with my husband, not spending it driving back with the people we were with all day.

We are renting a truck, we need it to get all the supplies from the city.

  • We are getting a limo, but the total, including tip is $375.00

The girls & I are staying at the hotel the night before (so our vehicles will be there). Limo will pick us up at hotel & bring us to church (1/2 hr drive).

The guys will be staying at our house. Only a 5 minute walk to the church.

After the ceremony, the limo will take FI & I back to the hotel (reception venue). The WP will go with their SOs to the hotel in their own vehicles (all girls have SOs with vehicles). All will also be staying at hotel for the night so no need to worry about transportation from hotel after a night of drinking.

  • I will be staying at my venue. However, I have been at two weddings that the BP drove themselves and the bride and groom had a limo or vintage car to take them from the wedding venue to the reception venue.

  • Our ceremony and reception are in the same place, so we are having family drive us there. I rented a Rolls Royce to take us home. It's something special to do since we aren't leaving for our HM for two days.  The Rolls was much cheaper for 2 hours than a limo.

  • We haven't quite figured out how we're getting us and the bridal party from the hotel to the church, but we're heading to the reception in a trolley and then FI and I are leaving the reception in a white vintage rolls.
  • We aren't really getting transportation.  My ceremony and reception are at the same place so they can walk the 50 feet from the ceremony spot inside to the reception.  The BMs and I will be getting ready together so we'll just all carpool over to the venue; the guys will do the same.  When we leave my FI and I will be using my uncles 1967 corvette.

We have a limo; its an 18 passenger Infinity SUV limo; we're paying $850 for 3.5 hours & 20% gratuity so its a grand total of $1,020 for 3.5 hours of my life; and an hour of it will be sitting outside the church waiting. SO. INSANE.

Edit: I don't even want to tell you how much the shuttle bus from the hotel to the venue is costing us. It makes me sick to think about; but its worth every penny to prevent a drunk driver.

  • I live across the street from my church and the reception site is less than a mile away....we could practically walk!  However, since I don't want to walk across the bridge spanning the Ohio River, we will use my car (it's bigger than FI's). The WP will drive themselves.
  • We are using a limo but only to get to the venue. Ceremony and reception are in the same place. It doesn't both me if FI and I drive off in my car. Plus if I got the limo for the way back too it would be like 850 total. Not worth it.

  • Our ceremony and reception are all at the same location (parents house).... so we didnt really have to worry about this. We are just using my car when we leave that night... and it's a Prius, so its nothing that falls into the "cool" category! HAHA!

  • We will be using FI's car and our WP will be using their own vehicles. It was just easier this way.
