Workout Accountability: Tuesday

Good morning, I'm back after a nice long weekend.
I finally got to run outside this weekend!  I ran 3 miles Saturday and was surprised a was a bit behind my normal pace.  I guess I'll have to get used to not running on the treadmill.
Sunday I lifted and my arms are still feeling that a bit.
Yesterday I ran 5 miles outside again and was just under my normal pace.

How did everyone else do?

Re: Workout Accountability: Tuesday

  • I finally got back to exercising after waiting 5 days for the Implanon to heal or whatever.  I decided to do a really long run to gauge whether or not it's worth it to train for the half marathon I want to do in May.  I'm already planning on doing a 10K in April and the 7 miler in August.  I ended up running 11.2 miles.  After my seven mile loop I felt awesome ... that lasted until right around the mile 10 marker and I'm sure I looked like Quasimodo for the last mile.  At least I did it :)

Tonight will be lifting and maybe some elliptical or bike depending on how my knees feel.

heyjude - My outdoor pace always seems "off" after running on the treadmill.
  • Great running ladies :)  I hit the weights this morning and then did a quick 3 miles on the treadmill.
  • Good Morning Everyone!

I just took a 4 day break from working out. Ugh, some of these long weekends kill me. When I'm busier, I tend to stay on my workout schedule. On a positive note, I got the house cleaned real well.

I'll be at the gym today doing a bit of cardio and weight training. Way to go with the running ladies!

  • Good morning! It's a nice, sunny day here and I looked at the 10 day forecast which now includes MARCH! How the heck did we get to almost March?!

Today I plan on doing my second day of C25K and my last day of Week Three Ripped in 30.

To the runners, when you run on the treadmill, what is your usual speed? For C25K I'm doing my jog at 4.5 and my walk at 3.5. Not sure if that's super slow or if I should try to ramp it up. Thoughts?

Thanks & hope everyone has a great day!

<div>It depends on how long you've been running.  I also run differently on the treadmill than I do outside so I tend to go a bit faster than my outside pace.  If you want to push yourself, try going faster in small increments and then back down to the 4.5 jog.  Ultimately, when you are first starting you don't want to go too too hard but give yourself enough push so that you can start increasing your endurance.</div>
  • Wow! Nice job with your runs!! I did some lifting/strength training when I got him from work last night, Arms, back, chest, and core. Then I went to spin class this morning. I was a little late so I only got 50 minutes in instead of 60. I know it's only 10 minutes but I always wanna kick myself when I do that!

  • Did some light cardio last night and free weights. Tonight I'm going to the gym (probably going to feel like torture after not having gone for 5 days!)

  • lbarr: Yeah, I was considering asking the more experienced runners here if they had trouble going from the treadmill to outdoors.  I guess on the treadmill, I don't have a choice if I set a pace.  Outdoors, it's obviously easier to slow down/speed up with every step. I guess I'll get used to it, but that first time outside was suprisingly tough.

  • When I am doing c25k I run/jog at 5.0 and walk at about 3.7. It says on the website too not to necessarily worry about speed. If on the last day, I find myself getting bored, I will up it a bit.

Yesterday I did elliptical for a half hour and c25k. Today I am taking the day off, I am working really late tonight.

  • Good Morning!

Life got in the way of working out this weekend.  There just was no time!  Last night I did the sculpting video in my workout program.  It was a nice change of pace because it really focused on the upper body.  I think tonight is cardio, but I'm not sure.

  • My FI and I finally walked this morning (we've been talking about it for about a week now, but there's been sooo much rain and we live way out in the country and even when it wasn't raining, it was super muddy.)  The road wasn't too muddy this morning and it was sunny and cool, but not freezing so we went for it.  He's going to see how far we walked today when he goes into town for dog food, but he thinks about a mile and a half round trip.

We've never walked together before and it was a little tricky since my legs are 4 inches longer than his, but the more we do it, the more in sync we'll get.  I really wanted to walk on our property and inspect the fences at the same time since we keep ending up with the neighbor's donkey and cows in our back pasture, but it's still just way too muddy for that so I'll have to trek out in rain boots later.  I did my toning workout as soon as we got back while my heart rate was still up.  Now, I just have to keep doing it so I can get over this plateau I'm on and lose the rest of this weight!

I actually have a harder time running on a treadmill.  I get so bored, then my attention wanders, I dunno- it's just impossible for my to find my groove on a treadmill.  As for running outside, that's just what I'm used to.  I can see where things like wind, hills, rocks & uneven ground would make it more challenging, but I find it so much easier to put my legs on "auto pilot" and just look at nature or houses or whatever.  It's hard to explain, hope that helps at least a little :)

<div>My groove lasts for 6-7 miles and then it's downhill from there.  Outside for the most part is easier.  I tend to go on hilly runs and I'm right on the coast so the sea breeze can make things more difficult which is why my time is slightly slower.  I like using the treadmill to "feel" what an 8 min mile is like, etc.  I'm slowly getting better at having the same pace on both.  </div>
  • Went to the gym last night and did the last day of week 2 for C25K. Lifted weights for 30 minutes after (cut it close - finished 3 minutes before the gym closed! Forgot it closed early for Family Day here in Alberta..) and felt awesome. Pooped, but awesome! Excited to weigh in on Thursday morning!

  • Restarted Ripped in 30 today...  Here's to hoping I actually keep up with it this time!  Last time I let my soreness after day 1 keep me from, well, doing anything else.

  • Thanks for the info lbarr & sparkles. I stuck with my 3.5/4.5 speeds today, but I did bump my last running interval up to 4.9 and felt more natural at that pace. I will try the entire running portion on Thursday at 4.9. I am definitely a beginning runner, so I am a little nervous to push it too hard, but we'll see how it goes. Thanks again!
