BM dress length???

My wedding will be April 2, 2011 and  it will be taking place at 6:30pm... so here's the problem. I always thought of my BM wearing knee length dresses but my mom thinks since it is a formal evening wedding they should wear full length. I feel like it could go either way, and since it is a spring wedding its not necessary to have them in full length dresses even though it is an evening wedding. I was wondering if any of you had thoughts on this...  I would love to know what you think. Thanks!

    I don't think knee-length dresses are inappropriate for a formal wedding.  The style of dress & fabric are more important.  If the dresses are appropriate for the location & your girls love 'em too, I say go for it :)

    I agree with PP that fabric and style are more important than length in regards to formality.  I am having a formal winter wearing, but my BMs are getting knee length dresses.  They are going to be dark satin cocktail dresses.

    I think anything that covers the knees is fine. Above the knee is a bit too casual IMO.

    I'm having an evening/formal wedding and my BM's are wearing knee length dresses. As pp mentioned, they cover the knee but that's as low as they go. Our wedding is outdoors so I wanted the girls to be comfortable and not too hot.

    I'm a little old school.  When I think formal, I think floor-length gown.  Shorter BM dresses just seem more casual to me.

    PS- April 2 is my birthday, good choice! :)

    I agree with jennylove810. If it is a formal evening ceremony, they should be in floor length gowns. Shorter dresses can still be formal, but more for day/afternoon weddings.

    I have worked in bridal for years and I think a knee length or tea length dress is fine.   6:30 Wedding kind of goes in and out of formality with daylight savings time and it is the summer.  So yes it can go either way long or a bit shorter.

    The style and fabric of the dress is what makes a dress formal or informal. If you want knee length dresses, get knee length dresses!
