Waxing Question

Evening Ladies,

Anyone else getting waxed for the big day?

I have two questions for you.
1) How long before the wax should I stop shaving?
2) How many days before the wedding should I get waxed?

I don't have particularly sensitive skin and I'd guess my hair grows at an average rate.  I asked the salon I go to these questions and they were very hesitant to answer, I think b/c they knew it was my wedding and thought I'd go bridezilla if it wasn't perfect.

Re: Waxing Question

  • You don't specify where  you are getting waxed, but yes, I plan to.  I would give it at least 3 wks to grow.....so don't shave anymore!  Definitely go 1 or 2 days before the wedding too.  Your skin will be red for several hours, and kind of sensitive.

  • Opps sorry, underarm and bikini line.  Wow 3 weeks!  This could be yucky, but worth it!  Good thing my bachelorette party is this weekend and not right before the wedding, its a beach day!

I've gotten waxed down below and that is what they told me the first time.  It might depend on the type of wax too, but you want length for it to adhere to.  Underarm....I have no idea.  That would drive me nuts though!  haha

I get brazilians every month and will be getting mine done about a week before (mainly because it's the date cut off to get my monthly discount).  If it's your first time, you probably will want to stop shaving now (depending on what part of October your wedding is)  The hair needs to be long enough for the wax to grab it...I think the general rule is that the hair needs to be as long as your pinky nail.  I get waxes done about every 4 weeks and those are long enough.  I got a touch up after 2 weeks for my bachelorette party this weekend and there were a lot of hairs that weren't long enough so my waxologist had to tweeze them instead.

You should definitely give yourself a few days before the wedding to get waxed (at LEAST 2).  Within 24 hours of getting waxed, you aren't supposed to work out or have sex, go swimming in pools, hot tubs, etc.  Basically you don't want to be sweating or put the waxed area in a place that harbor bacteria because it can cause infections.  So if any of those things were in your plans right after (like maybe some wedding night fun ;) you definitely wanna do it a couple days before at least.

ETA: I looked it up and the length your hair should be is at least half the length of your pinky nail

  • Wait... so, I've never had a bikini wax before (but I've done eyebrows, lip, and legs). I'm probably going to for the wedding since were doing a beach honeymoon right after.

So, let's discuss the difference between brazilian and bikini - is brazilian EVERYTHING (like, um, front to back, leaving NOTHING), and bikini just what would be in the way of a bikini line? If I wanted a small patch/landing strip (but like, trimmed down a bit), what would I ask for? Ugh, this is awkward. the place I go for nails/eyebrows is great, but it's one of those asian places in NYC where there are some communication barriers...just want to make sure I'm asking for the right thing, because it will be awkward enough.
