We're going to NY on Sunday and I'm tempted to get one. I know DH really wants one and I gave him a choice of a camcorder or digital reader for his birthday/anniversary/father's day, since they all occur within 10 days.
He was leaning toward the camcorder because he wants a digital reader that supports PDFs, since he uses them a lot for his job.
I really want to get him
this (clicky), partially because I won't have to lug my baby info books home this week. I'm more impulsive than him and would run out and get it right now, but he's debating if he really NEEDS it. Silly boy. That's what presents are for! Things you don't 'need'!
So, since I'm too lazy to compare the 2 on my own, do you fine ladies have any thoughts between the two?As a side note, I'm AWing what he got me for our anniversary - and he came up with the idea completely by himself!!

Re: Nook vs. Kindle
Just call me "Brothel"
And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

Great anniversary gift - good job, DH!
I haven't compared it to the Nook, but I LOVE my Kindle. No eyestrain, easy to use, battery lasts forever (especially if you turn the wireless off). I carry it in my purse all the time. And you can download books from the website on your PC, or directly from the Kindle. The only thing I'm bummed about is that DH bought it before the price dropped.
[QUOTE]I'd go with the Kindle, but only because the e-readers are in the middle of a war just like the HD DVDs v Bluray war and I think the Kindle is going to come out on top. It has better marketing and has a much bigger backer.

I agree with this. To put it in perspective, I think the Kindle is the iPod of digital readers and the Nook is more like a Zune. But the Nook is making a valiant effort.
The format on each is different. There's a special "kindle" format for the kindle. But it can also read .mobi, .txt and .pdf files. I've gotten free books for my kindle by downloding them and manually moving them to the kindle through my computer. But I think buying books for kindle through amazon (wirelessly) is SUPER easy and convenient. So is annotation - that's an area in which the kindle really excels. It's easy to highlight and make notes. And it has a built-in dictionary. With the nook, those things seem much more complex, the way it was demonstrated to me.
But overall, they're both good products. A lot of people see the nook as being a little more open source, so there might be even more free book options and different files it can read.

They just released an updated version of the software, so now you can organize your books into folders/a filing system.
And I don't see "no touch screen" as a con, necessarily.

Great battery life
No eyestrain
Buy books either online or from nook
Get free books from bn.com or gutenberg.org
+Lend Me--you can share books with friends
+Touch screen makes it easy to navigate
+ reads epub format, which is more open
Also, that comparison site is misleading or out of date. Nook does have a browser, text-to-speak and full pdf support.

I work at Best Buy so I've gotten a ridiculous amount of info about them recently because they're supposed to be the next big thing. The only one I'm not a fan of is the Sony ereader and that's mainly because, like most Sony products, it is very proprietary about it's adapters and formats it accepts.
Barnes and Noble did a great job with with Nook. Pretty much returns and I think the only complaint I've gotten so far was it was a bit hard to connect to the internet. But it was from one older lady who was a little bit technology illiterate.
Just a bit of info but I figured I'd give a little first hand insight. Hope it helps.

[QUOTE]I know nothing about either but I've gotta say that's an adorable anniversary gift that he got you. And I'm totally sad that you're taking Em to NY and I'm not there :(

Julez! I just saw this!
I'm sad, too. And more sad that we're moving far away from your awesomeness. :(

I was going back and forth for a while before the giant price drops (And Kindle only being $10 cheaper wasn't enough of an edge). I finally picked the Kindle mainly because I hate touch screens.
