Just Engaged and Proposals

Wedding website or Facebook

I am newly engaged and looking to be intelligent about my wedding planning and spending.

I found http://www.top-wedding-websites.com/ on another post here and I have been checking out the options for creating a wedding website, but now I can't decide if I should create a wedding site or just share on Facebook. Opinions?

Re: Wedding website or Facebook

  • I'd be very careful about sharing wedding info and website links on Facebook unless you make it totally private or you're inviting all of your FB friends. Personally I don't think FB is the place for wedding info at all; I've set up a wedding website and shared the url with family and friends on our guest list only, and that seems to have worked well so far.

I agree with all of this. I would keep as much off facebook as you can. Also the overall layout for wedding websites is much more user-friendly, and you can have a lot more organized information.
  • Besides changing our relationship status (because it's the quickest way to tell everyone we're engaged, and neither of us stays FB friends with exes and whatnot), we decided to keep EVERYTHING off Facebook. It avoids drama, it avoids people giving you their unsolicited opinions, and it avoids people being rude by asking for invites, etc. I have also asked my BMs to try to keep most stuff off FB, or at least not tag me.

Wedding website all the way. I would still make sure that you do invites and whatnot in a more traditional way, but the website is a great way to make sure all the info you want to give is easily accessible. My grandparents, father, aunts and uncles don't even have FB, so they would be left without any of that info.

  • agree that FB is no place for wedding stuff. I didn't even "change my relationship status." It was more fun for me to actually tell people in person. I've been engaged for 4 months and still get excited when I see old friends to share the news in person.  only thing wedding related on my FB so far has been my photographer wanted to share some of our e- pics, so when that was posted at least all of our family and VIPs were aware of the engagement and few people picked up on the new status so sent their congrtaulations.  I didn't need all of facebook congratulating me, but that is just a personal preference.  It just opens the doors for people to invite themselves!  When it gets closer i'm sure here and there, there will be comments made and I plan on changing my status after we get married, posting pics, etc.

the wedding webiste is much better and keeps it a little more personal.

  • I am newly engaged and I think that my FI and I will do a Facebook page and a private website.
  • Thanks ladies! Glad I asked. I hadn't thought about "friends" that might have expected to be invited that I did not plan to invite.

  • Definitely website. Using FB can make you easily overwhelmed. I really like the top-wedding-websites.com you recommended. You should try at least one website, and see how easy and fun to create wedding websites.
  • I agree with everyone. In addition to not all of your guests having a FB, a wedding website looks more thought out.
  • Congratulations!

I would suggest Facebook..it is easier for everyone to keep up with your posts and updates :)
  • I think using a website builder like eWedding or Wedbuddy would be the better way to go. It's just as easy to post stories and updates, and you get a centralized hub of wedding planning and activity with all the other pertinent features the sites have to offer.

    CongratulationsSmile
