Lighting...

Have any of you ladies done DIY lighting?? My florist wanted $2k to decorate my event home with lights (ridiculous) so we are going to take it on ourselves.  Below is a picture of the event house where the reception will be, already decked out in christmas lights (we have some of these and plan on making it looking similar), however, I have bought some string cafe lights from Target (8 sets) and want to create a draping effect over the dance floor which is all of the way to the left in the picture below on the second floor deck.  I want to create the draping effect similar to the second picture below.  Any idea on how to get the lights to hang?  Some sort of pole or something??  TIA ladies!!

Ohhhhh that is going to be gorgeous!  A girl after my own heart with all of the lights....love it :)

I would use white pvc piping and mount the poles on the railings with some sort of bracket and small screw (make sure it's not in an obvious place so the mgmt co doesn't see the holes, lol) then you can string the lights across that way.

I would make sure to mount the poles on the left side of deck railing so you have some height to the lights and they aren't draped too low from the top deck and smacking people in the face....that might burn a little, lol.

That's all I got for ya babe :)

I was thinking about this too and thought of screw hooks (in inconspicuous places).  OBX, you mentioning brackets made me think of the over the railing flower box brackets.  It's hard to tell from the pic what you've got to work with to attach to.  When I've got a project where I need to devise or invent something, I cruise all of the aisles of Lowes or Home Depot for inspiration.  You never know what might work.

On the part closest to the house it looks like you could just string the lights around the handles of the deck.   Then you wouldn't even need to anything into the wood.  For the other side I'd go with poles like OBX said :)

This is what I was thinking of and as you can see, it's actually holding a pole in place, lol.  I just happened to be outside my office and saw this and had to take a pic.  I think you can find these at Lowe's or Home Depot.
