How many is too many registries?

I have two registries right now (Target & BBB), but I'm thinking of adding a third (Kohl's). Is three registries too many?

    I was registered at BB&B and Target up until today, when I closed my Target registry and opened one at Kohls instead. My mom was talking to a bunch of her friends this weekend and they told her that Target does a terrible job scanning the items and keeping the registries up to date, so you could end up with a lot of duplicate items. Then, unless the gift giver gave you a gift reciept, Target will only give you the current price of the item you're returning. So, if it's on sale, you're out of luck.

    It may not be like that everywhere, but I'd rather not risk it. Nearly everything I had on my Target registry, I found on Kohls or on BB&B. I think 3 registries is fine, but I've really only ever seen people with 2. I think 4 would be too many.
