Jessica W. for Make up need opinion

Hi ladies. I have missed you all. Work has banned the knot and I don't have Internet at my house yet since we just moved it. So I'm typing from my itty bitty phone. It's been a crazy chaotic couple of weeks so I'm trying to get some wedding checks off the list before the holidays hit. One of those checks is make up. After talking with my WC we determined that Jessica would be the best choice for make up. I have read such great reviews for her here. So I am in the middle of booking her. She has my wedding day as a temporary hold. What I wanted to ask was I know she charges a travel fee. But if I was staying on the west side of the west side of the island does she charge a travel fee? Also in your opinion where is better to have the make up done at my condo or at Olowalu? I know Olowalu doesn't have air conditioning but I read somewhere that the breeze on the lanai is nice. Also my WC told me that I would also be watching them set up might stress me out if I am worried about things going smoothly. I don't think I would freak out but who knows.

I would have tried searching to for this topic but it is impossible via my phone. Any help or opinion is appreciated. I would like to c

Stupid phone! I would like to confirm with Jessica about where I would like to get ready. I know that her deposit is unrefundable. So any words of positive confirmation is very appreciated. Thanks! I hope that everyone has been well. With new jobs, houses, wedded bliss and major checks off their wedding list. I'll try to check in tomorrow via my phone.

Hey Lyn, hope the house reno is going well. Two words...BOOK HER NOW!!!...okay three words...lol. I think Jessica's travel fee may be a little less if she goes to Olowalu and not all the way to Kaanapali or further west.

To get ready at Olowalu or at your hotel/condo??? This is one of my if i could do it again questions would i. I got ready at my condo. I must say it was great getting my h&m done in an air conditioned environment...very relaxing and pleasant, with that being said when we arrived at Olowalu i found the bridal suite to be incredibly HOT. Maybe if i got ready at olowalu i may not have found it so hot and could have gotten acclimatized better. I will also say that i can understand what your WC is saying cause at one point it was sooo windy that everything was blowing everywhere...a cute little love dish i bought broke...the cushions on the benches all went flying and so did my escort cards...i was soo relived that they were able to find them all...so this did add a little bit of worry as i was trying to relax myself before getting dressed and seeing all of this commotion.

I would say if you are the type of person that has the ac on all summer...which would be me...then you may want to get ready at your hotel/condo. My WC also recommended this as well.

What i would have done differently would have been getting my h&m done at my condo as i did but arriving earlier...i think we arrived near or after 2:30 for a 4:30 start time.  I should have arrived an hour earlier at least. Oh and if you hire Dan to do your hair get him to put your veil/fascinator in...he showed two of my BMs what to do but they had some issues with putting it in. HTH...sorry for the long post. J. :-)

I vote for getting ready at Olowalu. The lanai is shaded and nice and breezy without being insane. Getting ready there was one of the hightlights of my day!

Since we have Olowalu for the entire day, I'm leaning towards getting ready there to take advantage of the scenery and the fact that we can be there early. I was thinking of getting makeup done on the lanai as well. I'm sure the heat in December won't be too insane! ;) but it seems like getting ready at Olowalu will be fun, plus you get to take advantage of the property while you have it!

I was there in one of the hottest months (Sept) and sitting on the lanai was heavenly. I am a control freak but I don't think there would be anything that would get to me when watching the set-up...as long as you remember that "things happen". My vote is for getting ready at Olowalu.

PS. Jessica is amazing! My trial was so fun :)

I got married at Olowalu in July and I would get ready there again if I could do my wedding over 100 times!  If I had gotten ready at a hotel or condo I would have been pissed I spent our big day sitting in a room when I could have been enjoying it on the lanai.

Jessica is FAB - she does charge a travel fee as she does not live on the West side of the island but it wasn't anything big deal.

And - I watched as they set up our entire wedding and it was awesome - not at all stressful!

PS - It was in the high 80's on our wedding day and I am from Alaska.  I was not too hot at all, I think being there getting ready all day really did acclimate me to the heat.

DO IT! Just book her and get ready at your location. Pay the travel fee.  You will be glad you are already there.

You'll have to contact Jessica for her 2011 / 2012 travel fees, but it was around $75 or $100 to go to Kaanapali back in 2010.  I got ready in our bridal suite at the Marriott because our venue didn't have as pretty a lanai area as Olowalu.  From the posts above, it sounds like getting ready on the lanai sounds like a heavenly option!  Maybe have some fans and iced water ready, just in case?

Thanks ladies! I think I shall be getting ready at Olowalu. I am used to hot weather and think that it be better to get used to it on the lanai. I'll just make sure to have fans on hand. I'm excited now to have Jessica doing my make up. Might as enjoy the venue while I have it.

That is exactly right Lyn!!  Heck, I had cold drinks, fans, etc. and the cold drinks are the only thing I needed!  Well, cold mimosas to be exact!  :)

Jessica is a doll and is so talented, and you will be SO happy you decided to get ready at Olowalu.  It really is awesome watching it all get setup!
