Brazilian Blow Out?

Wondering what your thoughts are on these. I have read up on them and I know there are some concerns about the chemicals in it. Have you had it done? Have you tried an alternative? What did you pay? Is it worth it?

Just thinking about having it done. The before and after pics I keep seeing are pretty amazing.

Like the keratin solution stuff?  I don't know much about the chemicals and stuff. My mom got it done, she loooooves it because she used to take for-ever for her hair. She's got the thickest hair ever and it was always a crazy, frizzy mess(seriously, my friends used to say she was the white woman with a fro). Now, it's soooo much tamer, she can even let it air dry and it looks good!

Edit: My aunt's a hairdresser, so my mom strictly paid for the product. She doesn't work/live around here or I'd recommend her.

There is formaldehyde in the Brazilian, which is a cancer causing agent. I've read a lot of different reports on it, which all say different things about the dangers. I think it just depends on which side of the argument you happen to be on. I would love to hear from people that have had it done or know people that have had it. With the length of my hair it's probably going to cost a small fortune so I want to do my homework first.

I am bi-racial and was strongly considering this as well. However after I did some research and also spoke to some salons I decided against it. There are salons out there that wont even do it.
I got the Japanese Perm. Its expensive and strips the curl from your hair. I didnt mind though. I hated my curls and wanted straight hair. My hair is permanently straight now. I had it done Christmas eve and I need to get my roots done and I have an appointment in June. My hair also has been so shiny and healthy!!
DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING!!
I love the Japanese perm but it is permanent. I would stay away from the blow out.
