Thank yous for guests not attending the wedding

I recently got a package from some guests not attending my wedding.  The registry slip inside, told me what the gifts were.  One was a cake cutter set we're using at the reception.  I wasn't sure if I should write a thank you note so I can tell them that we'll be thinking of them, or if I should just wait and send out a note after everything with the rest.

  • You should send thank you notes for all gifts you receive prior to the wedding, whether the people are attending or not.  You should also open the boxes to make sure nothing is broken or missing.  Just don't use the gifts until after the wedding.

  • I would send the note now.

Send the thank you when you receive the gift. I would specifically thank them for the cake cutter set and tell them how much you appreciate getting this gift early so that you can use it at the reception.  When my parents got married, somebody bought the cake cutter, wrapped it and left it on the gift table at the reception.

  • Thank you note for all gifts, definitely, regardless of attendance.  Who knows why they aren't?  Maybe an unavoidable commitment?

  • Send the note now. One less to write later.

Oh, yeah, it's also considered proper.

  • I would send it now, especially being the cake cutter you will be using during the wedding.
