Reception dinner question

I was thinking of renting a house in Makena for my side of the family to stay in to help cut costs. So then I had an idea of having the reception at the house and maybe have food catered. My worry is that there would be no entertainment and having it feel more like a normal family dinner and not a celebration. Any thoughts on this??

Other brides have done this and it went really well. You could always hire so entertainment like local musicians or hula dancers.

I love cozy events like that, but that's just our style. You could set up games to play on the lawn. We did croquet, but I've been to weddings that have badminton, horseshoes and trivia/advice games played. How many people will you have? Will you have dancing? What about speeches (those always formalize things!)? I love Kimmy's idea about the live music too.

It's going to be very small intimate wedding about 6-12 people. I like the possiblity of having music and games I think that would be perfect for our families.

That sounds absolutely lovely. Intimate, special, and fun! Honestly, my favorite weddings are the ones that felt more like really great dinner parties with your closest friends than big swanky affairs. What you described + music + optional games + paradise = perfection.

Oh, there's some traditional Hawaiian games you could play. We are planning on doing that. I can't think of the names of the top of my head, but if you google them they will come up. One of them is like horse shores. They just take sticks and stones to play them so pretty easy set up.
