Help! I need a venue!

My fiancee and I want to plan a wedding in 4 months (for June!) and need to find a venue. I know this sounds insane!, but we want to get married this summer and his parents are gone for most of July and August.

We don't really care where it is - North Shore or South Shore or Cape Cod - (his family lives on the North Shore, my family lives on Cape Cod) but there are some things we are looking for:

*Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday wedding. This means that I can hopefully find a place last minute by saying we will get married on a Thursday.

*Under $10,000 for the venue including food (whether from onsite catering or outside vendor). We are looking at about 150 people INVITED, what percent will come I don't know. (Maybe less if it's a Thursday?).

*Rustic feel. I know this can be done by DIY in ALMOST any venue, but we would LOVE something woodsy, horse-y, old barn, winery, art gallery, etc. Yes, we will do a tent wedding if the outside is nice.

*I want cupcakes. Not a cake. I don't know if when they say "wedding cake included- no outside cake allowed" they will let me have cupcakes??

We have an appointment to look at Red Lion Inn in Cohasset on Friday. This is exactly what we are looking for, but for 150 people it will be be outside our budget just for the place, even though there is no minimum for a Thursday.

We also have an appointment for Coonamessett Inn in Falmouth on Saturday. My mom loves this place and is willing to pay for it totally if I have the wedding there. But I don't really want a beach wedding. Anyone know if I could make that place feel rustic??

Thank you so much.. I know everything will work out and ultimately it's about the marriage not the wedding day, but I want it to be special.

Re: Help! I need a venue!

  • I would look into Groveland Fairways.  They don't have the rustic you are looking for but they might have some Fridays or Sundays open in the summer.  I know their Saturdays are mostly if not all booked.  They definitely meet your requirements on price and I know to rent the whole place is $1,500 on a Saturday and for 150 people I was quoted from one of the caterers $7,500 and another a bit lower than that, they use 3 caterers.  They also allow any baker to come in and I am working with Cakes for Occassions in Danvers and they were reasonably priced for cupcakes that taste amazing.  Best of luck and PM me if you want more information.

  • I second Groveland Fairways! They will definitely be able to accommodate you. I am inviting 165 and expecting to pay 12000 including beer and wine during cocktail hour. It would not hurt to check them out.

  • Thank you so much! I will check them out.
  • The Warren Center in Ashland, MA!  I got married there this past fall and loved it!  Ask for Erika, she was our sales manager and was awesome!  They are VERY reasonably priced.  They have a barn where you can take pictures!  Very rustic feel, but very classy!  Tons for trees (or woodsy as you would call it).  They will let you bring in cupcakes... I did!  No room rental fee... its included in the per person price.  Private message me if you want the contact information... she will definately help you out!
  • I went to a wedding at Camp Kiwanee in the Needles Lodge.. The wedding was beautiful and has the rustic feel http://www.campkiwanee.com/rentals/weddings/

  • Dh and I went to a wedding at camp kiwanee too.  It was the most fun wedding I've ever been to besides my own.  We had cupcakes for our wedding.  Our baker was sandy cove in scituate.  They were delicious.
  • I've been to the Coonamessett Inn several times both for weddings and just to eat in their restaurant. It's really nice there, and it's not necessarily what you think of when you think the Cape. Not beachy at all--in fact it's right outside Falmouth Center, so there's no beach nearby (other than the pond the inn looks over). The function room has a nice deck off the side of it and the room has kind of a colonial feel. I think you could do more "rustic" things with the decor.

Other ideas: Alfalfa Farm Winery in Topsfiedl, Smith Barn in Peabody, Camp Denison in Georgetown. (Never been to any of these places but I know they definitely fit the rustic theme you're going for).

  • The Convention Center at Camp Bournedale.  I'm not sure about their prices, but I know they can accomodate a large group of people and is on a beautiful lake and has the rustic atmosphere you are looking for.

  • I second the Bourndale location in plymouth. ww.capefunctions.com  My fi and I are getting married there next year. Its absolutly gorgous..you can bring outside cake/cupcakes.  We are actually using cupcake charlies.  Darin at bourndale is very helpful and very quick to answer any questions.
  • I'm at Groveland Fairways too and they would definetly fit your budget. Like other have said its not exactly the rustic feel you were going for but it's beautiful and worth checking out.
  • Consider the Rockport Art Association in Rockport, MA... beautiful space - Art Gallery with a rustic feel, check out their website.
Also if you wanr cupcakes go with Cupcake Cafe in Beverly, MA - AWESOME!
