HIM suprised me!!!

...so, FI and I are planning our wedding in Vegas. We want a very, VERY elegant but small and intimate affair for about 50 ppl....and since he just finished his Master's Degree and is starting a new job we didn't even contemplate a honeymoon. I didn't even bring it up because all FI kept stressing was "Budget/Budget/BUDGET/Le Budget (for the French folks)" so I just abandoned all hopes of laying on a tropical beach with my new husband watching the sunset when...

Out of nowhere he says to me today...."Where do you want to go for the honeymoon" *silence and blank stare*. I said "Huh? Honeymoon? That cost money" and he says to me "I know honeymoon cost money but...can a brutha suprise his wife-to-be every now and then"

I teared up and then we kissed!!!! Yay!

So...now I'm searching for Honeymoon Destinations...

So where is everyone going if you don't mind me asking and if you all got good deals please let me know...we are totally open-minded....about destnations....

Re: HIM suprised me!!!

  • Well we are going to NY for a week. As for you my dear I would check out some groupon getaway deals, living social deals and priceline. You'll definitely find something. Or maybe even a cruise Smile

  • awww how sweet!! Congrats on the honeymoon...I am no help I have no ideas...sorry!  But I heard that Jamaica is nice, US Virgin Islands are nice (wont have to get a passport over a hundred bucks each) or Puerto Rico (another destination you won't need a passport!
  • My honeymoon is going to be the week of July 22 . More time off for work then rather than last month. I am looking at groupon deals to be honest. Hopefully something "All Inclusive" will be there.

Yay for FI!  How sweet of a gesture was that?!  I'm so excited for you girlie.  Ain't nothing like getting away for some much needed alone time with your brand new hubby!  (I'm talking like I've done this already, lol).  I'm just so excited about the honeymoon.  I think I'm looking more forward to that than the actual wedding... But ya'll know why. LOL.  Anywho... Monday we will be boarding a plane headed to fabulous RIU Palace Resort in ARUBA, where its roughly 88 degrees alllllll year long.  And under the hurricane belt too, so you don't have to worry about that.  It's an all-inclusive resort and we have unlimited food and beverages including alcohol.  We even have an alcohol dispenser in our suite that they refill daily.  I'm so geeked and ready to go!  I went with a travel agent from cheapcarribean.com to book this trip and it was a bit much but I'd much rather pay for everything up front than to have to budget my "shopping" money on food and drinks during the trip.

ETA:  Try the website they have resorts and feedback from the resorts all over the websites and run specials all of the time.  On the other hand, a cruise is always nice too.  Carnival has cruises for as little as $600 for 2 people to the bahamas for like a 3 or 4 day cruise.

  • Awwwww. What a nice surprise!

If you both have passports, some of the caribbean is less expensive than vacationing stateside.  I'd look into what sheik said about groupons and stuff, travelzoo's a good one, vacationstogo.com, but read the restrictions really closely.

First we're doing a mini-moon - something short and cheap, most likely Cancun.  Then in winter we're going to a South African resort & game reserve called Zimbali.    His passport just came on Saturday.  You should've seen the twirly thing I did, it looked like Ro's final dance will :)
  • Awww Congrats.. that is so nice and sweet of him Laughing. I suggest something all inclusive we have been talking about P. Cana, or something along those lines. Aww happy searching..

Aww that is so sweet... I agree w/ PP's that groupon getaways are an awesome deal (just be careful of the fine print) and cruises are great deals especially if you can leave from close to home so no added air fare. I would say wherever you decide to go use trip advisor to do your research of the hotel/resort and the area. It is a great resource to find out what the place is REALLY like before you get there ( always look at the travelers pictures as opposed to the professional pictures)

ETA- If you decide on a cruise use the site Cruise Critic to help you decide which way to go (it is like trip advisor for the ocean lol)

  • Aww, that is SO Sweet!

I would try Skyauction.com. It's like E-bay for travel. They have some great deals  for around the time of your wedding.  Travel gets costly after Thanksgiving, but you should find some Great stuff in Early-Mid November.

I agree, though that you should Definitely Check Tripadvisor.com for reviews on any resorts that come up.

    Good Luck!Cool

  • Okay you ladies you are all so super sweet and yes ... HIM does loves me! lol it was a total shock when he said it my mouth totally hit the floor. I love ALL the feedback and suggestions too...

@ejagers -I know Aruba is nice you are going to love it!!! FI's cousin and his wife took their honeymoon there and they said the weather was perfect the entire time and I forgot about hurricane season, good point.
@sheikscorpio and others...nice idea about the groupons had not even considered that!
@Missqueens....okay thanks for that website and thank you for the reminder about Trip Advisor and the "true photos". Very, VERY important....

We are considering doing a cruise, neither one of us have been on a boat before and the all-inclusive element is there....besides the fact we get to hit some ports, do some shopping, and it might be most practical on the "Le Budget" as they say...lol

I will be sharing if I come upon any good deasl!!!
  • YAY!!!!! That's great!  We are going to Costa Rica and staying at the Hotel Riu Guanacaste. I grabbed a great deal where almost all the rooms were 40% off and FMIL retired from Delta airlines, so our flight is taken care of.

  • That is sooooo sweet! Definitely check out Trip Advisor for reviews. I was going to suggest Mexico for deals -- maybe Riviera Maya or Cancun. Not sure if you'd consider that just a mini-moon or an all out deal. Caribbean might also have some good deals, but that time of year (five months is when? November?) prices might be starting to pick up because hurricane season is ending... Cruises can be great because all the food is free and you get to see a few places. The cabins can be small, but heck, you'll spend a lot (but not all) of your time out of the cabin anyway. We're planning on going on a cruise for ours...

Also check out www.Vacationstogo.com for cruises or www.TravelZoo.com for deals.
