blackstone caterering

So I havent been on the board in a while (I took a "break" from wedding stuff for a little while we moved and got back to having "dates" on the weekends instead of vendor meetings!!..ha)

Last Saturday I had our first meeting with Blackstone and I really like them.
I can't remember the food at Morin's since its been a while, so I am not sure that I even can compare the too.

Tey were a bit more affordable and my mother loved the girl there

Hwoever, when I trolled the boards looking for reviews, there are 1000 morins reviews, but not too many on blackstone (I did a search of the board and found only 1-2 posts with reviews on them).

it doesnt matter if the review is good or bad--- is anyone using them or has anyone used them....?

I'm using Blackstone for my wedding at the Towers next summer, we are also working with Danielle.  I honestly booked them without looking into any other caterers, they made us feel so comfortable our first visit.  Danielle has been very responsive to all my emails and up front and honest about all costs.

I have heard people say they felt Blackstone was more expensive that some others in the area - but I found them to be extremely reasonable.  I haven't had my tasting yet, but have only heard positive things about the food!

This post is so helpful!  Im also using Blackstone next year and have our tasting planned in a few weeks time, I'm so worried people won't enjoy the food or will be left hungry!  How do I find the 9.17.2010 post to look at reviews? :)

We used Blackstone for our 8.1.10 wedding and loved them. When I was searching the boards, way back when, I found the same thing...everyone LOVED Morins but I couldn't really find anything on Blackstone. We interviewed them both and we really just clicked with Karen at Blackstone better than anyone else. When we did the tasting they let me bring the whole family, which was really important to me, where as Morin's was going to charge us $25 per person...I mean if you are paying them thousands and commit with a contract you should not have to pay for a tasting in my mind. They (Blackstone) even set up the table at the tasting how it was going to be at the wedding, which was so helpful!! We were able to throw around a ton of ideas with Karen and she was extremely responsive with email too.
The food was amazing too. I will admit it was amazing at the tasting and pretty good at the wedding. Almost everyone at our wedding ordered the steak so they had to cook like 90 steaks so I give them credit for that.
They are expensive, don't get me wrong, but we definitely feel we got what we paid for!!

    thanks lollipop

so you felt that the food wasnt AS good at the reception?

I thought it was really good, but i cant really remember the food i tasted at morins open house. I remember it being Good-- but cant remember the dishes that well

what i did notice a big difference was the Size. iwe had the exact same app at blackstone that we had at morins but it was like half the size. I asked morins if that was the size it would be presented, or if it was smaller for the open house- and she said no, that was how it was presented.

What was amaxing about danielle is that we didint even BOOK with them yet, and she did a full tasting for my mom and my fiance...

im glad to hear about the positive feedback!!

I have no doubt that Morin's puts out an amazing product.  With that said, we elected not to do a tasting with them, because their customer service and attention to detail did not impress us in the ways that other caterers did.  Our tasting with Blackstone was fantastic.  I went with my fiance & my parents.  Blackstone easily served us enough food for 8 people to taste.  We will be using them for our wedding!

We booked Blackstone at the Newport Yachting Center and we LOVE LOVE LOVE them.  I'm actually getting married this saturday so I will let you know if the food was AS good as the tasting.  I can tell you that Karen has been an absolute dream through the whole process.  We have a big wedding (over 200 people) and not a huge budget which I expected to get me laughed out of Newport.  Karen really worked with us to make our budget matter without compromising too much.  She never nickeled and dimed us and when I paid the final bill it was about $500 less than what I had caculated out.  As far as customer service, which is really important to me, they are 5 star all the way.
The food at the tasting was fantastic and I have family in the area that have been to Blackstone events and said the food was always outstanding.
Watch for my 10-23 vendor reviews and I'll give you the post-wedding low down.

I tasted both Blackstone and Morins.- both were on par with taste- blackstone even won out on some dishes. I ended up booking Morin's because I liked the presentation of the food 10x better. I think it depends on what you are going to do... if you do a sit down dinner, than Blackstone would be a great choice because the food tasted great, have VERY reasonable prices, etc. I am doing a cocktail sytle reception with stations and Morin's does fun stuff like serving some dishes in mini mason jars, mini bamboo steams, bento boxes, newspaper cones, kraft bags, etc.

    Congrats on the wedding....

mommy, I afgree on presentation. It was a big deal to me. But I simply asked blackstone to present things differently and they said we can.
Plus, I am doing a sit down. You are def. having some really neat presentation style things at your reception!

I work at a wedding venue and I sample a lot of caterers. I can honestly say that both are comperable are far are yumminess, and you are going to get plently of food with each of them. They have different styles of presentation...it just depends on which you prefer.
