Still undecided

Hi Knotties,

We're still totally up in the air about the honeymoon.   We're not going to leave directly after our wedding... instead we're taking a little breather (3weeks) for things to calm down.  It gives us time to regroup, relive the wedding moments and get even more excited for the honeymoon.  Our wedding is September 4.  We've both taken off work the second week of October.  Thought about a cruise... but the oil spill is putting a damper on that.  Now we're considering Vegas.  FI loves loves loves to gamble, I love Ceaser's pool... win win for both.

Any thoughts from anyone else about what to in Vegas (besides the obvious?)  Opinions about a HM in Vegas??

TIA!

Re: Still undecided

  • I think we would have divorced if we went to vegas....ha ha!
No seriously I really really want to go to vegas, but I definitely didn't do it for the HM because we are big gamblers and sometimes that leads to losing and losing causes stress and stress is not fun on a HM.  So just something to think about! I am sure if you have a better handle on gambling then we do, than it will be fine!

We did Sandals Antigua and I highly recommend

  • i dont like vegas so for me that's an out.
why is a cruise out? the oil is not effecting some departure areas or the caribbean

    Ditto this...

The oil spill is causing the same type of panic for people who don't do research as the violence in Mexico. Sit down and research what areas of the Gulf of Mexico and Florida are affected by the spill. Most of the Caribbean islands are unaffected, and in a news article I read this morning, there are still a lot of beaches on the Florida panhandle that are fine and that's near the mess.

If you're still worried about the spill, look into a Southern Caribbean cruise. FI and I did a Southern Caribbean cruise last November and absolutely loved it! Also, you could do a Mexican Rivera cruise which goes down the other coast of Mexico stopping in places such as Cabo San Lucas, Acapulco, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallerta, etc..

Also, by the time you guys go on your HM the oil spill may be long gone and some new disaster is headlining the news freaking people out. HTH!
  • My aunt and uncle are on a cruise in the Carribean right now.  We got an e-mail from them on Tuesday I think and they said they are having a wonderful time and that they haven't seen any of the effect of the oil spill.  So I would look into the cruise!

  • Ditto the posts about the Caribbean.  The oil spill isn't effecting the islands.  We'll be heading to PuntaCana in the Dominican Republic in late August and we're not worried at all about the spill.  Too many people are freaking out over something that just isn't happening.  Do some research and you'll be good.
    Anniversary
  • i agree with the gals that right now people on cruises might not be seeing a lot of the oils effects, but by october comes around, with hurricane season just starting, it could be a lot worse.  i would talk to a travel agent and book the cruise if that is what you want to do, but talk to them about what will happen if the islands/ports you are going to are damaged from oil, etc.  they can give you some options i think.  good luck!
  • If you really want to go on a cruise, there are other places to take one such as the Mediterranean, Alaska, etc.  Personally I wouldn't go to Vegas for a honeymoon, it's not very romantic.

  • I agree with jlmarks, I vote for the Dominican Republic.  The weather is so gorgeous in October, it would be the perfect spot for a honeymoon. If I were you, I would check out a resort called Dreams La Romana. It’s an all-inclusive resort located on the southeast coast of the DR. I have visited quite a few of the Dreams properties and loved every one. However, Dreams La Romana was one of my favorites. The beach was beautiful and the service was excellent. I think this would be an amazing place for a honeymoon. There are tons of activities and the staff is so accommodating. Congratulations!

Vegas is cool.  My best friend and her H had their honeymoon in Vegas and they had a great time!
